Could you please refresh our human memories on the throttling nature of the asustor server. I remember that there was a performance issue with lack of pcie lanes?

Each m.2 is Gen 3x1 (so mad 1GB performance on each, with a fractional boost in the right raid that increases per drive). This is largely unavoidable with that CPU tbh, but I can imagine asustor are going to follow up on this device with something fbeefier down the line...

Why is it on their website that they list write and read speeds over 1,000Mbps on a 10gbe in raid 5? Reviews say they can’t get much over 600 on write speeds in raid 5. Something isn’t right.

Just a thought would it be a good idea to remove all but on drive and mark the drive as boot drive so if you have any problems with the boot drive you know which one it is to make replacing it easier.

That's some solid advice. I would add though that, in the event of that drive failing, you have a lot of eggs in 1 basket situ with your config etc (since last backup at least). Would maybe modify this to 2x SSDs in a RAID1 you can still expand later

I'm running a HP microserver 4 drives for raidZ1 and in place of the cd drive using a ssd the way I backup the ssd is using rescuezilla, had a bit of a problem getting the os (Truenas scale) onto the ssd so I used the LTT JONSBO N1 NAS Build and installed the software using another pc.@@nascompares

Do any of the small form factor pc’s (for a trueNAS server) have a way of getting a non-usb connected high speed interface to a das that is faster than eSATA/6 and can take advantage of the fast speeds of ssd’s? Even if you have to mod the sff case!

If the sever has a PCI-e slot it should be possible to install a SAS HBA or RAID controller. Those can transfer up to 1200MB/s per channel, and you usually use a four channel connection, so about 4800MB/s raw. Depending on controller you can have up to 16 lanes out. So depending on the DAS used you can get pretty good speeds. Now it wouldn't be full SSD speed even if you're running SATA drives once you pass two drives per channel. But it's doable. You need more than that and you're looking at something like 100Gbps networking and SCSI over IP, or perhaps InfiniBand. Now any of those and you're outside my comfort level. Same with Fiber channel which tops out at 128Gbps, so not all that much faster than Ethernet, but with much better latency than SCSI over IP. So if there's a PCI-e slot there's possibilities, it will just cost a lot of money. And once you start inversting that kind of money it will pay for itself to hire a specialist to design the system. It's also likely you will want increased security, support, backup solutions, and someone to blame when shit happens...

I've got the same issue, no NIC is seen. No lights on the NIC at all no matter what switch I plugin to or do it direct.

additionally I booted back to the internal card and the NIC came right up :/. But not on TrueNas
