Finally someone who can teach. The problem with TRueNas is that if we turn it off, SMB gets disconnected and does not start automatically. REvised: With the new version, it starts automatically. Thank you UTH

Just scored a less than two years old Dell desktop that I'm going to throw my three 1TB SATA SSDs into and use as a NAS that I can ultimately use as a PLEX server (and upgrade the storage hopefully soon down the road). Going into this knowing pretty much nothing at this point, this is a good start-off point for someone like me who's getting back into learning servers since I haven't worked IT since 1999. Boy have I got a lot of new info to learn.....

Thanks for your video. I could briefly understand its features :) I have a question. Our team and I want to just test its usability and features of trueNAS Scale for future decisions of storage servers. Our problem is that we have only one disk for data. I've also checked official minimum hardware requirements of trueNAS and I wonder if I can install and test with only one data disk. We can start from scratch but I wonder if you have any ideas or knowledge before that. Thanks, man~

Yes you can test with 1 disk. 2 is what is recommended for redundancy. Good luck and keep me posted. Thanks for watching!

Thanks For making the Video. What if the Drive that stores the OS is dead. How do you resolve the Issue. Do we loose the Data? My objectives is to have mirror. Also if I only need mirror should I stick with Windows bases RAID 1.
@UltimateTechHub2 ай бұрын
If the OS drive is unusable then you'll have to install a new drive and you'll probably lose the data unless you take the drive to a computer repair shop. Often they can pull the data off of the drive but it costs around $100 to $150 to do this. So you should buy a small 256GB SSD for the OS ( Windows OS raid 1 ). I have SSD product links in the video description. As far as mirroring, purchase 2 HHD that should be the same capacity and run raid 1, RAID 1 stores data on two or more disks, with each disk containing an exact copy of the data. If one disk fails, the controller automatically switches to the other disk, so the data remains accessible. You can install 3 or 4 disks but then you could run Raid 5. RAID 5 is a redundant array of independent disks configuration that uses disk striping with parity. If you have 4 disks you can run Raid 10. RAID 10, also known as RAID 1+0, is a storage array configuration that combines RAID 1 (disk mirroring) and RAID 0 (data striping) to provide high performance and data protection. I like a simple Raid 1 with 2 drives. ( 2 High-Capacity Drives - 8TB or 12TB ) Hope this helps and thanks for watching!
@mohankrishna14432 ай бұрын
@@UltimateTechHub that was a great information. Even I like Raid 10. But the cost puts me down. I will choose the 4TB but I have no idea which model has less failure rates. I heard some Seagate models have high failure rates.

When I run Etcher, it splits my USB into two drives and Windows tells me that both are in need of formatting in order to be read. Is this supposed to happen? Pi-Hole question: I had been using Pi-Hole on Truenas Scale for month until upgrading from Bluefin to Cobia in February. I struggled some with Nextcloud and Syncthing after the upgrade but got both of them running without reinstalling them. Pi-Hole (TrueCharts version) on the other hand did not survive. Other apps will install OK, but since the upgrade TrueCharts and TrueNas versions of Pi-Hole will not install they both fail with the following cryptic error message. [EFAULT] Failed to install App: Error: INSTALLATION FAILED: create: failed to create: secrets "sh.helm.release.v1.pihole.v1" is forbidden: unable to create new content in namespace ix-pihole because it is being terminated Anyone have any ideas how to FIX this error???
