Glad you used a mortor bed, most companies that have a modified grid style base say a mortor bed isn't required but nah, I'm setting it in one, only adds like 15 bucks to the bill, and makes its soooo solid, I used synthetic roofing underlayment I had left over to staple to the floor before putting mortor bed down so it's not actually stuck to the subfloor incase I ever had to remove for some reason in the future

Excellent, detailed and comprehensive video, as usual. Agree with the other comments that the delta sets are very flimsy and cheap feeling. And I dont trust those joints at the corners of the surround to be watertight over time, hopefully I'm wrong.

i did the same but i put some spray foam insulation in the void between the walls and the outside, it really keeps the temps up on a bath.

great video. One question please. I'm actually taking out a tub/shower combo to install a walkin shower. I do have sheet rock on the wall. is it best to remove sheet rock before installing cement board for tiling entire shower? Thanks

What should you do if the tub drain lands directly overtop of a joist? Notch the joist or buy a tub with the drain in a different position?

Is the liquid nails you put on the back of the wall necessary? What if you cannot get to it because your not in a new house and you already have surrounding walls up?

Do you have a video about replacing a tub/shower combo (with walls)? It would be much more difficult. In one of our bathrooms I can imagine having to do a lot of cutting of wall panels because I imagine the opening is not standard dimensions. The house was built in 1988. I don’t know what standards were back then. Great video. Thank you.

I do not have a video on replacing a bathtub. That would fall under remodeling. I hope to get into remodeling more in the coming years. Every remodel is going to be different but a video would be helpful to give you a good idea. Good luck with your project!

I did all the same, but I used American Standard tub. It’s way more rigid than Delta.

Hello, your tub drain is going to leak the way you installed it. I’m trying to help people out here since delta doesn’t. This tub has a support base which is what your drain gasket seals to. There is no sealant between this support base and the actual tub. You must seal the top of the drain inside the tub with silicone as well as between the tub and support base. Delta doesn’t tell you to seal between the 2 layers of the tub but any water backing up past the threads or the inside drain flange will reach the 2 unsealed layers of tub. So many people report this problem in reviews for more than a decade and still delta has done nothing to prevent the leaks.

Great job, but those delta sets are the most flimsy and cheap tub and shower surrounds you can use. I think cardboard is stronger. I've installed 2x Kohler Sterling ensemble tub and surrounds in our house and they are stout and very thick with no flex in the walls at all. Way better set, for not a whole lot more honestly. And if you notice a defect even after you install it, Kohler will send out a repair guy that specializes in tub repair and refinish and will repair it and can't tell at all where they repaired it. That customer service blew me away after I noticed a small chip after install, they sent out a repair guy the following week free of charge to fix it. Customer for life now

I appreciate your input. It’s great to hear. Kohler will stand behind their products. I installed Kohler toilets in my house and love them. I feel like Delta is a good all-around brand for the price. Thanks a lot for watching!

Always great to see it explained to use a sand mortar etc. I'll be setting a 48" shower base soon. It is so nice to set bases this way. Makes the unit very solid and most manufacturers recommend it as well. So glad to see everything done with precision. Great job Josh. 🔨👍🏻🔨👍🏻
