My pixel 2 is frozen in boot loop. I have done or installed anything. Can I install twrp and can it help?

Not sure how you got the twrp and magisk zip files into your phone. I got to the non permanent twrp however, when I hit install, it doesn't show additional files in blue like yours does. I followed the exact steps you did. Why do the additional files not show up on my phone?

Try rebooting your phone into the bootloader again. If you need the fastboot command to stop you can press the 'CTRL+C' combination to break.

I have some nooo questions but I have to ask anyways. What's the difference between the TWRP there is a beta and alpha and more what's most stable and best. What android version are you on (8.0, 8.1)? And what security patch are you on (January, December,etc.)? Thanks in advance I'm a huge fan!
@MaowDroid6 жыл бұрын
Sorry I missed your comment. A beta is supposedly more stable/advanced than an alpha. I'm on 8.1 Feb Update. :)

So here is what is happening...after I installed twrp, I can boot into twrp but it always shows incorrect password or pin or pattern what ever set for lockscreen. So I also tried disabling the pin and boot in to twrp. But then touch does not work Everytime I reboo into twrp with pin disabled..with the pin enabled if I cancel to put in pin and go inside menus , twrp is not able to make backup folder and also not able to select storage check box in Mount section...so help guys

Are you on Android Q beta? TWRP doesn't work on that fully just yet. If not, make sure you're using the latest version of TWRP. Should be 3.1? Or 3.0.
@LiranBarsisa5 жыл бұрын
Is there a way to let TWRP stay even after updates by Google? It's quite annoying to flash it all the time. Each time I update the OS, I have to flash TWRP (which is temporary) and then I have to flash Magisk. Alternatively, do you know if it's possible to let Magisk stay even after update?
@MikeTrieu5 жыл бұрын
It should be technically possible to flash TWRP from within Android while also preserving Magisk, but there doesn't seem to be a nice way to do that directly from Magisk or TWRP Managers now. That is, of course, while you still have Magisk loaded before Android in the boot image. If you take the OTA, you must first restore the boot image to stock, otherwise it will fail the OTA system integrity check. Also, you *must not* reboot before you reinstall Magisk to the second partition so Android doesn't have a chance to interfere with Magisk.

Everything went well for a while but then my phone got stuck on trying to download the February update. It just wouldn't download. So I updated TWRP tonight and now I can't get the system to boot.
@MaowDroid6 жыл бұрын
You shouldn't be applying OTAs with a custom recovery, especially how its a little different when it comes to the Pixels. I'm not sure if you've figured out what to do yet, but I would use the factory images to update your rooted/modded Pixel instead in the future: kzbin.info/www/bejne/eKjEiYCmid2ieJY
@BryantAvant6 жыл бұрын
MaowDroid spent all night trying to figure it out. Finally found a simple command prompt to push the factory image. I haven't rooted and put twrp and magisk back on yet but it's still unlocked bootloader.
@BryantAvant6 жыл бұрын
MaowDroid apparently updating twrp overwrote some of the system boot files and I could only get to TWRP but my storage files and apps we're still there. Just had to do the factory image overwrite and put the factory recovery back on.
@MaowDroid6 жыл бұрын
Yep exactly! It would have just been the boot image that was messed up :) So yeah, don't do that again ;-)
@MaowDroid6 жыл бұрын
Also, disable automatic updates in the developer options while you're at it as well. It will save you some headache in the future!

when i try to put the twrp image my phone screen goes black but just stays off and i turn it back on normally but i cant get it to load twrp
@MaowDroid6 жыл бұрын
Strange, which Pixel do you have, TWRP version that you're trying to boot, and platform tools version (check with fastboot/adb --version)?
@joshmesser3746 жыл бұрын
MaowDroid I unlocked the bootloader before watching your video using minimal adb with fastboot and it worked and it's all normal, and I tried with multiple versions of twrp, including the latest, and the one you use in the video.
@joshmesser3746 жыл бұрын
MaowDroid also when my phone's plugged in I only see it in my computer when it's on transfer photos, it disappears on transfer files, although I still was able to unlock the bootloader so I don't think that's an issue
@MaowDroid6 жыл бұрын
Yeah, the the mess up between ADB and MTP modes should have no effect on the bootloader. I guess what I was trying to say is that when you update the bootloader, it may need newer versions of the platform tools as well. That's why I was wondering which version your adb or fastboot binaries are outputting. You can always get the latest version here: developer.android.com/studio/releases/platform-tools.html

@MaowDroid4 жыл бұрын
That should be fine, in any case you can flash the factory image to restore. If you're on Android 10 or 11 running stock I'd probably not install TWRP. Method 1 from here should get your phone back on its feet: kzbin.info/www/bejne/sILQfGiBrLNoms0

+Paul Ramos you won't need to ;) you can install the xposed framework via the Magisk Manager. Then install the Xposed Installer apk for Magisk: forum.xda-developers.com/xposed/unofficial-systemless-xposed-t3388268

If you're not on Android 10, this will, but make sure you use TWRP for the Pixel 3XL. If you're on Android 10, you might want to wait out until TWRP supports it.

I've had some trouble decrypting /data on later versions of Android 10 using TWRP. You can sideload the zip by first going to TWRP > Advanced > Sideload > Swipe to Sideload.
