Don't use etcher, it will brick your USB thumb drive.

I am 71 years old, I have a masters in IT (pick category) and worked for IBM, WANG, HP, Compaq and am retired (yes finally thankyou Jesus). Anyway. I am sorry but all this BS about load this usb prepper and then download the O/S and so on is flat out Bull 💩💩. Hate to sound like an old fart, but back in the day. You downloaded the damn O/S burned a DVD with it or a USB with it. Put it on the PC to be updated. Hit enter. DONE. Sure it may ask you to partition or wipe out. But this stuff anymore is ridiculous. No wonder non-IT people just 'BUY A NEW ONE'. SAD.

When you choose to Erase the data from your drive is the entire hard drive get wiped out or just the partition c for example where my win 10 was once

I had no success with rufus. Don't know what's the issue but it keeps blinking the cursor for a long period of time and then turned off. I saw an error message prior it presents with the three items menu on which one is Try or Install Ubuntu. And the error is Can't find command grub_platform

@@chrdiloet i resolved it. My motherboard was faulty (some capacitors blew up) and doesnt want to boot into any os. Put my usb in another mobo installed it without any problems

Why use Etcher when you can just copy it over to the Flashdrive directly

Doing that only brings the file over, you need the flash drive to be bootable so the install can actually happen.

You have to use programs for flashing os on usb because if you just copy files from the iso then it would not show up in the boot menu
