You don't have to shoot in log mode. If you leave that off and go into picture profiles you can scroll down until you get to your user luts. Basically you can bake your lut into the image straight out of camera if you want. At least on the FX30.

But shooting in log is safer to do just in case you change your mind about the lut. As someone that fit weddings, I happen to change my mind on my colors once I start editing, so have the lut baked to your footage isn't advised unless you only do vlogs and social media stuff

So actually I discovered once you finish installing, instead of going to log(I didn't even turn it on), just open it from picture profile from color/tone, it already has preset profiles, you can just select the ones you just installed and replace them, and the color graded image will just stay with full quality instead of flat/noisy image. I found this feature so amazing and convenient, it worked on both of my fx3 and a7cii. I'm not 100 percent sure about the older models but I think the newer models all have the ability to do that.

If you install a LUT on the camera, when you export your video to your editing software, will you need to apply the same LUT on top of the video in post production, like in Premiere Pro, in order to see the changes (i.e., not see the flat grey look)? Basically, do we need to apply the LUT twice (once in camera and a second time in post production)?

@@reyjohn88 you can apply lut directly from camera, by turning off the log shooting, then instead using log on picture profile, use your own lut picture profile you created/imported as your picture profile.

Question. Using the a7cii, if you can’t use both a conversion LUT and the creative LUT for preview, won’t it look different than in post. In my eyes without the conversion LUT, the camera is showing LOG to the LUT. Wouldn’t it need to be LOG> Conversion> and stylized LUT on the camera to be accurate?

It’s not totally unlikely we’ll see this in an update to the A7 IV but I wouldn’t hold my breath, Sony is often very slow and sparse with meaningful updates if any.

I’ve an issue with my a6700, after going into the Exposure tab, and Color/Tone pathway, I have no option for LUT’s, only have access to D-Range, Creative Look, Picture Profile and Soft Skin Effect….nothing else.

I dont understand , I thought since luts are now set before recording than we can have a video file that is colored the way we want without needing post processing . Do we still need to do post processing ? what are luts for then ? I came from fujifilm where film simulations and recipes give you a video/still file with the colors u wanted without any editing. how can I have that in sony ? creative styles is not enough , it just has some highlighs shadows color saturation etc, thats not very interesting to me.

Hi guys, don´t know if this happened to anyone but my on my Sony A7CII when I go to the "Embed LUT File", it appears grey and it stays in OFF. When I click it it says"This operation or setting not available as follows". Select LUT, S-Log3." Does anyone know how to fix this?? Thanks!

I would say that the worst part about this feature is that exposure tools do no bypass the LUT. I don't need Zebras to tell me that with a LUT applied there is overexposure. I need it to tell me without the LUT applied whether or not there is over exposure. Because in post one of those two scenarios is recoverable, and the other isn't. All exposure tools should always bypass the LUT for this reason, because in order to get the best image and post and preserve the most amount of data, exposure needs to be pushed to the right on Sony, but if I have tools telling me that I'm "over exposed" when I'm not, then I can't expose the camera in an optimal way. Anyway, other than that, thanks for the quick instructional video.

JUST GOT MY sONY A6700 a little under a week ago. Im very impressed with it, jsut awaiting my smallrig camera cage v mount batter ridgid pro cheese board and mat box. Luckily i dont need to get a monitor as (and heres the kicker) I have a Sony Xperia 1 V PHONE, so the software that comes as standard allows it to become A monitor, PLUS recorder PLUS a live streamer with no additional hardware or software. Oneo f the advantages of using Sony stuff :)
