Hey there, I went to your channel today because nailing a really good setup guide / video user manual seems to be your forte. I was hoping to find a “best settings explained” guide for what I think might be the most important piece of indie gear since the A6700: the Tascam FR-AV2. I recently acquired this powerhouse of a field recorder, but I am LOST trying to figure out the ins and outs of the menu system, and unlike Sony where you have a built-in dictionary if you don’t understand something, the Tascam menu offers no such benefit. Worse, it seems I was sent version 1.0 which does not have the timecode jam sync menu, but I have no idea how to do a Tascam firmware update, because there is NOTHING anywhere on youtube or even the Tascam website walking you through all of this. PLEASE, contact Tascam. I am sure they would be thrilled to give you a FR-AV2 recorder so you could put out one or several of your superlative video user manuals! The Tascam FR-AV2 (when updated to version 1.03) is game changing because it can jam native timecode into the A6700, so you don't need anything else (like a tentacle sync) to sync the camera to the recorder sound. There are a lot of gear review videos out there that describe what it can do, but nothing that explains, step by step, how to set up your unit to make it do all of those things. Here’s hoping you’ll consider it. I briefly ran the idea by Curtis Judd, but I didn’t get the impression he was interested. You’re it, dude!

I just got the a7iv and I shot with a 45mm 1.8 lens INSIDE an apartment with few lights on: awful noise especially in the shadows. Shooting outside during nighttime with few street lamps, even worse. SLog3, ISO 800 or 3200 (to try dual base ISO). No noise reduction programs available for me at the moment. QUESTION: what I am doing wrong? I see videos online shot with this camera but there is NO WAY I get even close. Not to mention degradation if using luts.

Thanks for making this video, I was trying to decide whether if I should upgrade to full frame and get A7Cii or just stick with APS-C and get A6700..... still undecided but this helped get closer to a decision; just wait it our for another year

I often do run and gun video particularly for weddings. Am I correct in understanding that I'd have to adjust the zebra lower limit number every time I change locations or environments rather than just keeping it at one particular number all day?

Nice guide. Unfortunatelly it's not correct when you speak about the zebra values. Monitoring with a 709 lut change the exposimeter and by consequence you need to set your zebra with the 709 ire table (for example 100+ for the highlight instead of 94) and not with the slog3 table. It was different with the old gamma assist, when the exposimeter was pre "lut" and you could set the slog3 ire values. Another way is to set the zebra monitoring with no lut and apply it after.

An ugly apartment bedroom to a beautiful video-studio that you can turn into about any color you wish with thoughtful lighting. Nicely done and nicely presented with so many, dare I say it, micro tips along the way. 😁 But, darn, you forgot to mention and identify the ultimate piece, the piece de la résistance, the detail that lifts you to the top, namely the "The Studio" neon light. A few years back when I first started pricing these, a similar custom one set you back about $800-$1k. Now with a LED model that looks semi-neon, they are a reasonable $200-ish. Or, alternatively, a look-alike alpha overlay in DaVinci Resolve post edit. No question it really does polish-off your studio! Thanks for sharing this video!

Hi, I bought an a6700. I do some settings (SLog etc.) to 1-2-3 modes. But in these modes, I can not change F and SS values. The product says (not usable in auto programmes). How Can I do manual these settings in 1-2-3 modes (for video). (Solved; I saved the settings to 1-2-3 in M mode)

Thank you, appreciate that. So, I used to run fully manual, but with the new Sony M&C app, I can tap to focus so I just have the camera at f8 and have my phone close by to tap to focus/track and yea been pretty solid. Manual is always the safest though in my opinion

Cam manufacturers have released a ton of cams over the yrs aimed at vloggers and content creators almost never hit the sweet spot. The Pocket 3 is just so easy to use and is so feature rich that it caters for almost everybody. Beginner or pro. The only camera that comes close is the Lumix S9 in my opinion. That said the pocket 3 is so easy to pick up and use and it delivers.

Hey nice video. I have a question for you. Even with the camera plugged in to my computer the battery still drains. And there isn't a second USB-C port on the camera so that I can connect the camera to my computer and charge it at the same time. How do you deal with this?

Impressive video, Sean De Wispelaere. Looking forward to seeing your next upload from you. I smashed that thumbs up button on your content. Keep up the awesome work! Your insights on using different tripods for overhead shots were particularly helpful. What are your thoughts on the best techniques for stabilizing shots when using a desk-mounted tripod?

Great video, thanks so much. I’m getting hung up on how to pick the right zebra value though- that seems like a grey area (😉 pun intended) because in the rock climbing clip I would have guessed that was “average white skin tones” and picked 56, but you went higher. Any tips on how to get that number right?

I just got back from a trip to Nepal, I took my A7IV, A6700, insta 360X4 and pocket 3. When just wanting to walk the streets I used the pocket 3 a lot, great lil camera. I shot some 100p with the pocket I found it a little soft against the 100fps of the 6700. Still really happy with the pocket.

I overexpose by 2 stops all the time. I take excess noise in camera to remove it by stopping down in post. Much better than the other way around. It’s basically the opposite of how photographers reduce noise.
