Mold only grows on organic material. so no. However, if the conditions are right...than yes. That is why you must remove the main source mold needs to grow. Moisture.

I live where there's a lot of clay soil and rock so my crawl space has a lot of rock in it. Do you consider that debris? So, I should remove the rock first? I realize it can cut into the plastic if I don't but do I need to remove it for other reasons?

Great video, but I am still uncertain about this question - dirt has organic material in it, and, it will be moist or wet by nature, where it touches the vapor barrier (and I imagine the wall will always be moist too, won't it, at least where it is below ground)? seems that mold would grow. What am I missing?

Noob question. Can you install a Vapor Barrier in a Crawl Space that contains a Furnace?

The more important question (maybe what you meant), is can you completely seal a crawlspace which contains a combustion appliance: If it is a 'sealed combustion' appliance meaning it has a dedicated combustion air supply (typically a PVC pipe) bringing air to the unit in addition to a flue, then absolutely. More likely, your furnace uses ambient air for combustion, so in theory you may need to provide a source for make-up air to enter the crawlspace to offset what is used for combustion. However in practice, crawlspaces are so leaky, that even if you seal everything up there will still be enough leakage to provide this. It also depends on the size of the crawlspace- the idea is the bigger the crawlspace, the more leakage, which is why building code does not require make-up air if the crawlspace is big enough. Bottom line: It's beneficial to seal up your crawlspace regardless, and then if necessary provide a small opening (preferably near the furnace or even ducted to it) to provide make-up air. Whatever you do, make sure you have carbon monoxide detectors in both your living space and near the furnace. If you decide not to provide a make-up air source, you can install a 'spill switch' on the flue as a safety measure in case there is back-drafting. But you'd have to try pretty hard to get your crawlspace so air-tight that that's an issue.
