I'll be laying my new floor in Jan. So I've been watching all the videos I can. This is the first video that mentioned the obvious that I hadn't thought about. Measuring side to side I learned , this allows to plan that a narrow width plank doesn't end up being laid at the end. BUT no other video I've watched cover the length also!! It's obvious but I really hadn't thought of it nor had it been covered in other videos I've studied. Thanks....shows that we need to watch all that we can in order to learn since we are not professionals. Thanks and thanks for the view ;-)

Tapping blocks usually have a double step on one side (shown at 14:08), that fits better and does not damage the tung. Also when hammering the ends down, make sure they don't get damaged. Pretty good job of installing this floor - better than most of the cowboys on youtube attempting to fit floors. I do have a concern though........ these planks come in 3 different widths... Im pretty sure they are meant to be installed using the same size (width) planks down the run from wall to wall, and then the next run use a different width. What you have done is use different widths in the same run, which has resulted in no spacing of the boards between rows - you have all the corners meeting in the same place and I think this could compromise the stability of the floor. Looks nice though.

Aside from not staggering a lot of the planks, great job!
@ThriftDiving5 жыл бұрын
Thanks! I staggered all the planks that needed to be. Since their multi-width planks, it may seem like you're supposed to stagger all of them, but from their instructions, the 5.5" and the 4.5" planks are one unit, and the large 10" plank is a unit. I staggered the units, not the individual boards. That is how the instructions are.

One you have the first row done, you use the off cut from the end of the row, as the starting piece for the beginning of the next row and it nearly always works out with the correct stagger, plus very little wastage.
@ThriftDiving5 жыл бұрын
Yes, great point. I did that for some of my boards. I may have forgotten to include that. But it does cut down on waste. However, with this particular flooring, it may not work all the time because the boards in this brand/color are different colors. So it's more than just staggering the seam but also staggering the colors. But even if I didn't use the cut off piece for the start of the next row, I saved those pieces and reused them for start pieces when the color fit into the pattern, if that makes sense.
