I go over everything from lay out to gluing, installing, straight cuts, compound cuts and curved cuts.

If you do a better job cleaning the floor first, you wont have any debris or staples in the glue. when your done gluing the floor, take your knife and cut a small slit in the side of the bucket and run your trowel through it to clean it off. Nice move thinking about wiping the sides of the tiles coming out of the box but a broom works so much better :D When your dealing with door jambs its much easier to undercut them by placing a tile next to the jamb before gluing and just use a jamb saw and cut off the bottom of the casing so the tile slips under and you dont have to do all the mitre cuts and waste so much time. the only time you should need to do that is when you encounter a metal doorway. When using a heat gun. it is recommended to only heat the tile from the back as it will distort the finish on the front side. When the job is complete, Please take the time to use a 75lb or 100lb roller and roll the floor in both directions. this will ensure you get all the air out and ensure the bond with the pressure sensitive glue. Sorry for being critical but in the long run it all helps. but you did a very nice job :D

Thanks so much for the information. So many people can do the job but are not such good teachers. You did very well with both. I especially appreciated the tips such as not pushing installed tiles with your toes, cleaning the edge of the tiles etc. The time you spent showing and explaining the fitting of the radius and such left no question unanswered. I feel much more prepared for the tile job I have ahead of me. Thanks again my friend

I am a 60 year old woman who has taken it upon herself to lay VCT in the main bathroom. This was so educational and thorough. I so appreciate you posting this for people like me. In the next video, would you stop what your doing, which in this video was noisy, and then talk and give instruction? I could not hear what you were saying. LOL. Once gain, thank you so very much. I can't wait until I'm finished and my husband (who has been away all week) will see that I can do things on my own.

Great video!! I have to put down some VCT in our washroom (an enclosed porch actually) and have been looking for some information on how to get the job done. I have to say, you nailed it here in your video. You not only showed the process of laying it, but also showed us a few tricks in getting the ends cut. Thanks for posting this and showing us the right way to get it done!

Thank you so much for this great video! This is definitely a great insight on how a PRO puts down VCT. The heat gun trick is wonderful, really makes compound cuts a snap. I used a Milwaukee heat gun with a Lenox Gold razor to just walk through the VCT tiles like butter. My biggest newbie mistake was laying the glue too thick at first, you only need a thin thin 1/16 layer, also watch for "tails" when sweeping with the trowel. Again I cannot thank you enough for sharing this information.

Hey, RR. Thank You for taking the time to share your experience. I watched this video in preparation for an installation where we cut out a wall and the existing tiles in adjacent rooms were two different colors. I had replaced a few damaged VCT tiles before this, but never laid an entire floor. I used this method of measuring and cutting the perimeter tiles. Everything went smooth, quickly, and the new install fits better than the original work.

tip for beginners if there is a gap in between two tiles after you are finished you can scrape/ shave a little bit off of an extra piece of tile and take those shavings and rub them into the floor. This will fill in any gaps. also use a single edge blade rather than a double will lessens the odds of cutting your thumb.

I put a line down and glue out up to any tricky cuts ie toilet/sink pans. Use normal marking techniques for straight cuts up to skirting. I cut out all door architrave's and again use normall piece of tile or plank width to mark out with around these, or make up paper templates exact size of the flooring to be installed for around pans. Part fit the paper template around pan and pencil around it. Transfer the paper to your tile/plank and cut along the pencil line. Glue in after. No mess.

Less accuracy required in cutting for a door jamb if you cut the jamb and slide the tile under it,,, then you just have to obey the wall. Just use an offset saw (reversible to be able to cut from either direction by offsetting the handle), lay one of your tiles upside down next to the jamb before starting the room, lay the saw on the tile as a height guide and cut right into the jamb. Now you can just slide the tile under the jamb for a perfect fit every time and never chance wasting a tile.

Interesting seeing how the tile is put down, my work is all on the waxing end.The one thing I see too often is something similar to a large pimple that eventually crack and leave a hole. Not sure what causes this. Some one said its stones protruding under the tile others say the concrete floor was not grinded smooth.
