I have seen so many videos! I researched this so much and this is one of the BEST tutorials I’ve seen you gave great instructions with great detail. Thank you so much

Hi Cara! I'm so pleased! It's one of those projects that takes a lot of attention to detail but if you do it will look so professional! Thank you so much for leaving such a thoughtful comment! Made my day I'll be sure to tell my Dad too haha

Just completed this project, this tutorial was very beneficial. Using the precut boards for measuring and alignment made getting the boards up fast and easy. The only difficulty was a very uneven wall, and the painting and caulking is tedious! It looks great though!

Hi Joshua! So happy these tips helped! I can only imagine how tedious an uneven wall with this project would be! Great job completing this project ☺️

Do you think a hammer and finish nail would work as well if you don't have a nail gun?
@AmandaWeldon4 жыл бұрын
Legit going to ask my Dad about this one sec!
@AmandaWeldon4 жыл бұрын
Okay this is what he said 😂 "Yup. It will still work but not just as well. But it will work. 👍 Just a bit harder to hold in place, until you get a few nails in." Hope that helps 🥰

Hello Amanda I love how your wall turn out. I want to do the same but my wall has two small windows, one on each side. Would you recommend this design for my wall?
@AmandaWeldon4 жыл бұрын
Hi Natalia! So exciting that you are thinking of doing a board and batten wall as well! I think this could work out really well with windows. One thing I think you should consider is -- measure everything out to avoid difficult cuts having to be made. I think this pattern would really work because likely you will only have 90 degree cuts. :) Best of luck with the project!

Love the wall! How thick / deep was the mdf you used?
@AmandaWeldon3 жыл бұрын
Thank you!! I just got out a tape measure to see haha it's 3.5 inches wide and about 0.75 (something close) thick!

Love the wall. I'm a total DIY newbie but this was inspiring! Unrelated wall question, I love what you did with that globe lights on the ceiling! How did you do that?
@AmandaWeldon3 жыл бұрын
Aw I love that! I'm so glad this one inspired you. Honestly we are still just as in love with it as the day we completed it. So for the globe lights Scotty literally just screwed in those hooks you can get at the hardware store and then ran the line down behind our curtains. Super simple solution to no actual pot lights! We have them hooked up to our WEMO light dimmer so we can change their intensity and it's truly the chef's kiss!

Were the vertical boards nailed into the studs? What would you recommend if your spacing doesn't align with the studs? Would finish nails through the drywall with liquid nail work?
@AmandaWeldon4 жыл бұрын
Hi Joshua!! The vertical boards were nail gunned in and they were also liquid nailed on with the glue! So it's not going anywhere. Would definitely recommend both. Because the boards aren't heavy and the vertical boards are the biggest boards it's okay if they don't align with the studs. Most of them did but with both nails and glue it's super secure! :)

Do you remember by any chance the color that was your wall before the project ? Thanks 😊 love your video

Hmm I'm not sure! I did love that blue but it was what Scotty painted it way back before I moved in! Haha so sorry I can't be more helpful.

The wall looks awesome! I'll be doing my project this weekend. That said, we will be changing our flooring and the contractor will need to take out the baseboard and then putting it back on, which may be lower than the original height. If that's the case, how do you think I can fix it?? Thanks in advance 😊
@AmandaWeldon3 жыл бұрын
Oh that is a great question. I would suggest if you can change over all the baseboards in the room that would be a great way to keep them even. If they aren't glued on you can remove them and reuse the material. I bet your contractor will have some solutions too! If you have to trim the baseboard you could paint it the same colour as the wall. We did a consistent colour and it actually looks really cool!
@davidchristman30203 жыл бұрын
What size and length of brad nail did you use to fasten the MDF? Thanks in advance!
@AmandaWeldon3 жыл бұрын
Hi David! I asked my Dude and he seems to think we used 1 1/2 inch nails. Hard to remember now but all depends on the thickness of the MDF I suppose. Also the glue was such a key factor.

What was the width of the boards?
@AmandaWeldon3 жыл бұрын
Just took a tape measure into the bedroom and the boards are 3.5 inches wide!

Did you also paint your baseboard? It looked like you did at the end, but I wanted to be sure...
@AmandaWeldon4 жыл бұрын
I did! It was a hard choice but I am really happy that I ended up doing it. Then I thought meh it's just paint, if I don't like it I'll redo it! But all good :)
@NorCalHkyplayer3 жыл бұрын
curious the size of nails... maybe I missed it / didnt see the size anywhere.. BTW, great looking wall.
@AmandaWeldon3 жыл бұрын
Hey there! Thank you so much! I messaged my Dad and this is exactly what he said back, "I would have to look but I think 2 inch brat nails. The MDF is 1/2 inch and the drywall is 1/2 inch, that gives 1 inch to go into the stud". Hope that helps!!

Pre-primed mdf boards are expensive.

Yah they weren't horrible but I bet there are even more cost effective ways! We're newbies :)
