Hey Chris, totally agree with your lil rant on "making things better for yourself." I'm not a perfectionist by any means.....due to too many projects; some in progress and some still on "the list." (my wife's list) Anyway.....building a work/out feed table in my shop for my cheap ($169.00) table saw, which was built from leftovers and surplus from different jobs (home improvement) but I took the time to build it "the way I wanted it!" Yeah....cheap table saw, but it serves as my job site saw and shop saw and at the level I'm at with wood working, it's plenty good for now. My skills are improving and watching your videos REALLY helps! Eventually I'll upgrade to a better table saw and a fancier out feed table.....hopefully similar to yours! Really nice job on the out feed table Chris!

Mate, many people have said it already but your excitement and enthusiasm is just infectious. I saw your video and instantly got a grin before even clicking on it because I knew what to expect. Thank you for putting in the effort you do to make these videos and taking us along for the journey. As Robert mentioned in another comment, you have become my favourite maker. Keep doing what you're doing and hope you and your family stay safe mate. Cheers!

Based on your previous response to me, I pulled the trigger and purchased this setup as well. Just got it yesterday and already have it installed and up and running. It is fantastic! Of course, I am going from no dust collection to this, so it is a big difference. But nonetheless, it is a very nice system and those 4' to 28' hoses are AWESOME! Appreciate your feedback and keep up the great work!

So my son has a sensory issue with noise as well. I have a pair of hearing protection, head phones is what he calls it, it has a spot down low where he can easily access it. Now anytime I am going to drill, drive a screw, and loud noise I tell him it’s about to get loud and he puts his “ head phones” on and he can go right back to playing, or whatever he does. Love seeing your kids involved. It is nice to see Ofer parents doing stuff with their kids, even if it’s just them hanging around while you’re working

I just love your philosophy of getting things to look right even if nobody sees it. It’s a reflection of the approach and professionalism the maker of anything is putting into a project. ‘Spot on’ observation! I have always approached jobs with this view. Hearing this from a guy like you ensures that I don’t think I am suffering OCD we are just a perfectionists! An aspect too often lost these days. Keep up the great work!

Chris, my name is Mike and I am not too far from you in Augusta Georgia. My wonderful wife is buying me a shed, soon, that will be around 10 x 16 to turn into my first-ever shop. I found your channel earlier today starting with your "Dream Shop" video and then the "how much did it cost" video and then went down the French Cleat rabbit hole and finally am here. I subscribed and rang the bell on the first video! The point of my comment is to say this, even though our shops are of vastly different sizes, different planets almost, you're showing things in each video that I am pretty sure I WILL be using in my own shop! I am looking forward to combing through all of your videos between now and getting the new shed, and seeing how many things I can find that will eventually make my life better in my shop!! Thank you for posting what you post!! Your children are adorable. Your little girl practicing her Karate on the vacuum bag, water painting on the floor, bringing you tools is absolutely pure and perfect. Your little boy running around in circles in puddles barefoot made me smile and wish I was 2 again to have such a good time with essentially nothing. Please .. Stop apologizing for the 'distractions' in your videos, they are precious moments in YOUR life that you are gracious enough to share with the rest of us, especially those of us who never had children of our own (unless you count my dogs). Please, also .... I see your little girl almost always has gloves on. Build a cleat organizer by the door JUST for your two kids, and get them (and yourself) in the habit of grabbing safety glasses off their shelf and putting them on as you come in the door, EVERY time, because that habit will be as important as your choice of SawStop over something else. It -WILL- eventually save an eye, I promise you, just like SawStop will eventually save a digit, or two ... While you're at it, get them in the habit of hearing protection, too. Far more subtle and less "immediate" but over time you will grow to wish you had fostered more discipline there for yourself and for them. Sorry, I'll get off my soapbox, now!! :P If you're still reading, YOU'RE one of MY favorite kinda of people too!

Mike where do I start. First of all thank you. I really do hope you get your shop up and running as fast as possible as it’s one of the pure joys of a maker to finally have your own sanctuary. As for the safety glasses at the beginning of the shop right by the door. That’s genius. Thank you so much for the tip. We have tried hearing protection however the kids seem to resist it as it takes up most of the space on their head. Either way live in learn. No soapbox brother I appreciate all the comments and a concern and I wish you and your wife, and your dogs a wonderful night and I’m glad you’re aboard. Thanks again and welcome. Chris

Another great video Chris! Love your daughter & her participation in your video’s. I bought a Rocket dust video several years ago as my main dust collector & I see they’ve made numerous improvements. Mine hangs on a 6x6 post on it’s own French cleat........designed to be moved as needed. It has a smaller bag too, & it’s heavy! I had to mount pulleys higher on the post in order to mount it. I like your way of mounting the hose & couplings, etc. since mine is mounted on a post, I need to devise how to mount the hose.....Thanks for continuing to inspire in your humble way.

Chris great informative video on what appears and I'm sure coming from Rockler is a top notch dust collection system. I just wanted to say I think it's pretty damn cool that you don't let time escape you with your daughter and that she was just as big a part of the video as Rockler was...Speaks Loudly as to your character and the type of father you are...A+ brother A plus! As far as your attention do detail, I am the same way and have been scrutinized at times over the years as I grew up in the construction biz... some people don't get it and never will some call me OCD, too meticulous... Lol I just treat every project the same and I look at it as the amount of integrity one might or might not possess... So I get it bro. Take care, be safe, stay you dude! Top Notch all the way around bro. Wish you and your family best of luck in years to come

So when I saw this, and saw the very first image of the gangly 28ft hose draped on the wall, my first thought was, why didn't you build a hose reel? And that got me thinking and researching how to build a hose reel for my own, giant 5K sqft shop. I have two dedicated shop vac systems, one for the woods area and one for the metal fab area. Currently I have a pile of 40ft hose that gets dual use when needed and even a couple more rolling "shop vacs" that get pulled out when the hose won't stretch to the middle of the shop. All that to say, I think a rainy day projects is going to be a couple of hose reels and another purchase of 40ft hose...

Chris...Thanks for a great vid. I love the kids running around the shop, seeing it as a fun and exciting place tp be with Pop. Just think, someday the Grand kids will be over to see "Pop in the shop." It brings back so many wonderful memories of my Gramm and Gramps. When I was about 5 yrs old, I stayed with Gramm and Gramps one Summer. They always made sure there were "interesting things" around for me to create my own "toys". I still remember my Gramps big ol, wood shop, tool box with all the wonderful tools and mysterious gadgets to play with. I also remember using Gramps "Buck Bros." socket firmer chisels to break up some rocks (I'm not sure why). Gramps didn't say a thing. He just re-sharpened the chisels and put them back in the box without saying a word. In the evenings he would bring in his Machinist tool box with the drawers and let me play with all the neat gadgets. I really liked those calibrated "C-clamps" with all the neat lines and numbers on the handle. And they came in different sizes, but only one of each...go figure. One evening, I built a "Cannon" by taping a big rubber band across the end of a 6" long piece of Chrome sink drain. Gramm gave me some clothes pins (remember clothes pins) for ammo. I put the pin over the rubber band, pulled back and let fly...Good grief. I managed to destroy several cans and and oatmeal boxes before the contraption "got lost"... good times. Did I mention that I became a Mechanical Engineer and lifetime wood worker...kunk

Hey Chris Awesome Video.. Love that you have your kids in the shop that is awesome!!! Couple questions 1. Any plans to add a cyclone to the dust collector? 2. I am moving to PAlm Coast and if I remember correctly you are in JAX where can I get rough cut lumber specifically mahogany 8/4 - 10/14 as well as hard maple etc. 3. What kind of humidity problems have you run into in FLA. I am going to basically do up my garage like your shop with ply on the walls and french cleats everywhere. So waiting for this Virus to end so I can move more of my shop to FLA. Your videos are awesome and look forward to them!! soon as life returns to normal Ill have to become a Patreon supporter.

My goodness thank you so much for the kind words. I’ve been to Palm Coast so many times I can’t count. Also in terms of getting hardwood you can go to Jacksonville woodcraft I’m not sure exactly how much mahogany they have but you might want to check Florida Southern plywood off of Lane. Avenue. I bought my plywood from there and they have a selection of hardwoods as well

Thanks for a great presentation. I did consider that Rockler system for my tiny shop but wasn't convinced of its filtering of superfine particles. I am also worried about tripping on the hoses. So I got a Laguna roll-around dust collector that meets my needs. (Did I see some glimpses of a similar unit?) Your daughter is a bundle of energy! But another way of looking at punching the bag - - it's not promoting violence, she's starting to learn a valuable self-defense method! Regarding Publix - we spent 40 years in SC and GA and almost always shopped at Publix - love them! But now we are in Maryland, and the closest Publix is in Virginia, something like 75 miles away! So unfortunately we have to suffer the whims of lesser companies ...

It looks like a great system, I hope to have something like that soon. I mostly like your energy and I thank you for supporting the economy during this time by working and keeping stores open. I like how you keep mentioning the six foot rule. I am a fire fighter, in San Antonio, Tx. Its amazing how many people cant follow the simple six foot rule. I also have a son with a lung condition. Long story short, his left lung was removed when he was two. I haven't seen him, face to face, since this pandemic began. He lives with his mom so FaceTime is a blessing. Anyways, I didn't mean to go there, I just wanted to thank you for making this video. I hope I can afford one of those soon. God bless you and your family. Jim

UNDER FLOOR DUST COLLECTION. Hey Chris, Your Dust Collector is awesome, however, I'm designing a small shop (16 x 16 hip roof) and want the dust collector as unseen as possible. I'm planning to put it under the floor in a raised Shed. I can't find anything informative on an underfloor system so I thought I'd ask you if you have had experience with such an install. So far, I plan to use a 2HP Harbour Freight Central Machine base-collector, 4" PVC Sewer Pipe, metal blast gates, and 4" flex hose to connect at equipment locations. I'm also researching remote blast gate actuators (essentially solenoids and micro switches - 12v, ) The floor will be raised approx. 18" off the ground on 4x4 posts. It will start out with a connection to a Table saw, a Mitre saw, and floor access at a wall for sweep-ups, and three dead-end access locations for later equipment additions. (Thickness planner, Drill press and band saw, benchtop disk sander and grinder) The dust collector will be wall hung in a small sound-insulated room/cabinet, with access from inside the shed. I have computer-generated virtual pictures of the project if you care to see them. Thanks, Chris for making really good instruction videos, you are a natural, and sharing your talent is greatly appreciated.

It really is inspiring that your able to share these experiences with your kids. Mine are 13 and 10. They don't hang out with me as much like this as they used to because I like to joke my Daughter is 13 going on 33 so she is to busy and my Son is 10 going on 20 so I am just not as cool as I used to be, Enjoy them as long as you can my friend, it goes by to fast. And to be honest, it lets a lot of us relive our experiences.

I thought I was the only one that done that lol, my explanation to my girl is “you just gotta be sure about these things hun” Subscribed!!

I love your view on life and doing the extra little bit of sanding just so you know that it's been done properly the first time!! I was like that when I was at work, but my own workshop is a NIGHTMARE!!! I really need to start finishing my home projects better....... or at least finishing them off before getting another random idea in my head and forgetting what I was doing 10 seconds ago 🤔 Err, what was I doing again?!?!?!?!?! LOL On the whole social distancing........ physical distancing, don't socially distance youself from everyone, put physical distance there, but come together as a society....... with 6ft between everyone 😁 (I can't take credit for that one, but it's still true). We're stuck at home, not doing anything so pick up a phone and call some people instead of just texting. We need social contact to stay human, so try to put more time into verbal communication instead of text speak 👍

Heard your statement "Make-Details-Matter" just as my table saw and dust collector were winding down. Point well taken. Had to stop, rewind and watch from the beginning. Yeah, make the details nice, chamfer the corners, add edge-banding to the shop cabinets, make mounting plates instead of just screwing things randomly to the wall. It all really does make the shop, and life more pleasant.
