Here's how to install Windows 10 on a Chromebook in 2018! Installing Windows 10 on a Chromebook is actually pretty easy and only take a few minutes to prepare for.
In order to do this, you'll need a USB stick with Windows on it.
Be sure to check this website to see if YOUR Chromebook is compatible. If it is, just follow these steps and you're ready to install Windows 10 on your Chromebook!
Turn off your device, open the back and remove the Write Protect Screw. (THIS MAY NOT APPLY TO YOUR CHROMEBOOK)
Press Esc + Refresh + Power
Press Ctrl + D and press Enter to enable developer mode
Press Ctrl + D to boot Chrome OS
Open a tab and press Ctrl + Alt + T
Type in "shell" and press Enter.
Paste the following into the shell and press enter
cd ~; curl -L -O coolstar.org/c... && sudo bash setup-firmware.sh
If you get stuck on screen with a rabbit and some yellow text, this is the fix for it: • HELP!! Windows 10 Wont...
Others have reported trying a different USB port has worked for them as well.
If your mouse, keyboard, etc. doesn't work, plug in an external mouse and keyboard to download the appropriate drivers from the coolstar.org website. DMing me about it isn't going to get you anywhere.

Cheap and easy to manage. Not everyone is technical and let's face it Windows needs done technical abilities. ChromeOS is very simple and when most people only use a web browser this a good thing.

If you’re gonna be doing this on a chrome book with 2GB RAM and 16 GB Storage space like me, I recommend you do the following for space and memory 1. Compress the drive by right clicking on local disk C and compress files and sub folders 2 after that is done, open CMD as administrator and type: Compact.exe /CompactOS:always This will further compress the drive. 3 install all available updates after this 4. Go to %temp% and delete all files it lets you delete After that go to c:\windows\software distribution\download and delete everything in there (this is temporary update files that you no longer need) 5. Right click local disk c, click disk cleanup, click clean up system files (this usually takes a while), tick everything there and press ok (this takes longer) These are a few tips I have learned myself after using a chrome book with 2GB memory and 16GB drive space and using it for a whole year in school (I brought my own device) Hope this helps!

There is this guy on a KZbin channel whose video is 25:15 long that helped me brick my Acer C740 in an instant (name is not worth mentioning). Anyways, after watching your video all the way through and went to your website for the full guide and replaced my motherboard, I succeeded. I had to use the new method (the commands from your video didn’t work for me and thanks for the option), but option 3 which you mentioned did not look proper and so option 2 fits the next step well. You downloaded the right thing. Just run that and put your USB stick in and create the bootable USB.

Just a reminder: to install windows OS on another computer that is not a chromebook, you can download a usb boot file from Microsoft, not this sketchy Rufus talk I’m hearing about. Although it may be a software downloader, I am affirmative that it is not official Microsoft software. This is entirely my opinion, but I think downloading from the Microsoft forums would be better.

Well done, man. This is meant to show how to do exactly the opposite of that. You can install CloudReady on your laptop to turn it into a Chromebook if you want.

Most ChromeOS users are happy with updates that refine the use of their Chromebook. In a last resort to make use of it if you already have another one, that seems a good option. What I like to see is a utility that show the bios of the Laptop and tweak the settings. I suspect Google has safety margins all over and the performance cappt so it wont crash. This utility should be able to tweak RAM settings and other chip-related features. Throttling is one of them. My fan is almost never spinning and I wonder why it isn't possible to set a higher frequency to cores and GPU. Lets wait what Google does.

The process of getting the Chromebook setup and ready for Windows isn't too bad, but the Windows install process was kinda painfully slow since my C720 has a dual-core processor and 2GB or RAM. This would be great on a higher-end Chromebook :)

If you replace the SSD in your device, you should only have to install Windows on it. You shouldn't have to go through this whole process again as the ROM that you modified is stored on a chip on the motherboard.

Reading mostly, and watching movies when not home. I use headphones for audio so speaker quality isn't an issue. I'd keep on with my xoom but the power connector is proprietary and hasn't been made in years.

My device is nearly 5 years old and no warranty. If you do what you said and try to get a warranty replacement, you're a jerk of a human being. It's too easy to revert back to normal to require a replacement.

Yep. Everything installed just fine on my Acer C720, but there are drivers available on the coolstar.org site for compatible devices to help get things setup.

Greetings! Could you also make video how to restore custom firware back? It looks like i somehow managed to fail this process. Almost the sme thing happened when i tried to install galliumOS dualboot to my chromebook, but i was able to restore it back to chromeOS, but i lost some partitioned space. thanks. One more thing. Do you know what went wrong? I went through with download and installing galliumOS, but when i tried to choose it with ctrl+L it just wrote missing OS, after that i could even repeat the download process. it says that download is not possible because some certifications are not secure. now im left with 23GB space on my chromebook instead full 32GB. im using acer 14 CB3-431 with EDGAR processor. I also tried with this --> bit.ly/2s6Sp4P which is specificly written for this device but no luck.. I need this to work because i need MS office for writing my college degree.

Something weird happened and sometimes I have to try these things a few times before everything works. Your Chromebook should handle all of this just fine as it's more powerful than mine.

This is where he “wanted to check an see if windows was on the usb” after restarting it and no OS to boot from lol. He also didn’t mention you need a bootable drive to load the windows OS. i guess i am in the minority i do not see the point of this........ chromebooks don't really have the hardware to run windows wouldn't it make more sense to buy a cheap laptop and flash windows to it?

Depends. Some Chromebooks are coming out with i5 processors and 8+GB of RAM and are still relatively cheap compared to their consumer laptop counterparts. Part of it is that traditional laptops have to pay for a Windows license and that gets passed onto the consumer. BUT, this was more of a demonstration than telling anyone they SHOULD do this. I actually JUST released a video talking about the issues of installing Windows 10 on a Chromebook.

Isn't there a software-only way to run Win10 on Chromebook via a Linux route? Maybe not dual-boot but at least you can run ChromeOS at other times. I just need chromebook to run a full version of MS Excel. Everything else can be in ChromeOS.

Okay. So there's a chance that your Chromebook DOES have a 16GB hard drive in it. You've also probably got a 64bit processor in your Chromebook. The problem is the Windows 10 requirements per Microsoft: Hard disk space: 16 GB for 32-bit OS or 20 GB for 64-bit OS You can TECHNICALLY install Windows 10 64bit on a 16GB Chromebook, but you won't have ANY hard drive space to even install the initial updates let alone install any programs or anything else. You might look to see if your Chromebook has an upgradable hard drive in it. You'll have to Google that or take the back off your Chromebook to see.
