Thanks buddy... you information is really useful. (I've now done a full Mac Pro rehab) I had one issue with downloading the bootcamp Windows iso ... it errored stating the USB isn't big enough...(even though it was!)... someone ells on the forum sugested its a problem with FAT32 only being able to handle 5mb downloads... by using the earlier, and smaller April 2018 windows iso release it worked! I'm by no means a computer expert but I hope this might help others!

EDIT - this way won't work on the latest win 10 iso's, and installing via bootable USB can cause damage if you are not careful. Seems the easiest way is to install win 10 via virtualbox (trick it to install on a hard drive, then boot to that hard drive). Look online for instructions. Perhaps it's simpler to install win7/8 via bootcamp and then upgrade to win 10 from within windows?? (Haven't tested, seems a legit option) For anyone wanting to install on a Mac pro 5,1 the info.plist has changed. Remove the entry from PreUSBNootSupportedModels as mentioned in the video, add MacPro5,1 to PreWindows10OnlyModels and fix up the typo (nice one Apple) on the SupporedNonWin10Models section so it now reads SupportedNonWin10Models... Ensure your Mac model entry is in here too. Save the info.plist, open the copy and now you can install windows 10. EDIT: you will probably still get stuck at the bootcamp wizard taking forever with copying the windows files, then saying you have run out of space. I suspect this is because the USB is formatted FAT32 and as soon as the install.wim file hits 4GB it falls over. FAT32 cant handle single files over 4GB... Perhaps earlier versions of win10 didn't exceed this?

So what is the mac compatible graphics cards? Metal compatible or those old cards? Also what version of Mac OS is in this video? I am trying to install windows 10 on my 2009 Mac Pro (flashed into 5,1), but experienced a lot troubles using different methods. I have very old Radeon 4870 and GT 120 graphic cards. Since I don't have blank DVD+R disks, I tried to install Windows using USB. But then the FAT32's 4GB size limit for a single file prevents me from installing. The ISO file I downloaded has a install.wim of 4.27GB, and when the Boot Camp Assistant tried to create bootable USB from the ISO file, it stoped by saying no sufficient space on the drive, and ejected the USB. But I am using 16GB USB. I checked the USB, and found that it stoped at creating the Install.wim file. So how to overcome this?

same exact issue and circumstances here. any ideas??
@pbsct67574 жыл бұрын
@@retrovideo2124 If only this problem, then it can be resolved by splitting into smaller files using wimlib-imagex. Instead of using BootCampAssistant which will stop after meeting the oversized install.wim, You can create a bootable usb using unetbootin, which will create files bigger than 4GB. You can them delete this file, and mount the ISO file, and convert the original install.wim from the mounted drive to your USB drive using Wimlib-imagex, by using this Terminal command: wimlib-imagex split /Volumes/CCCOMA_X64FRE_ZH-TW_DV9/sources/install.wim /Volumes/WINDOWS10/sources/install.swm 3800. 3800 means each make shall not exceed 3.8GB. But I do not have a metal compatible card (it is on the way to come). I failed quite a few times.

Hey Vtudio Great tutorial! I will probably install Windows with my older NVIDIA GeForce GTX 680 2048 MB until everything works well. 1. Is there a way to install Bootcamp on a different SSD other than the "Macintosh HD"? I have other SSDs installed in my Mac and want to use a different one. 2. As soon as Windows is installed and runs well, I want to re-insert my Sapphire Pulse RX 580 into the same slot as the NVIDIA GeForce GTX 680 2048 MB. Can I do that and then switch to Windows from Mac using Startup Disk? 3. Whenever you want to switch from Windows to Mac you have to reset the P-Ram. Could this damage my Mac at some point? How long does it take to reset the P-Ram? Cheers, Dylan
@headsoftech6 жыл бұрын
Hey mate, PRAM reset takes around 2 minutes - it's a pain. But you can use an app called Bootchamp which lets you switch to Windows without setting Windows as the boot drive, this way after every reset it'll always go back to Mac. It's a pain if you need to reset Windows for a driver update as you're forced back into MacOS, but most of the time, it works best as you tend to never really reset your Windows once it's fully setup unless you need to go back into Mac. You can install Windows via a USB, however I haven't tested it myself so I don't know if it'll work on these systems. There's a guide here you can follow: kzbin.info/www/bejne/oYOVaZ6Mqb-MgLs The gist of it is just partition your SSD and use an app to install Windows on the external drive, so you can skip the whole Virtual Machine part if you already have another computer with Windows on you can use.

Hey bro! So I have pretty much the same configuration you do with the x5690 processor, but it’s a 2009 with flashed 5,2 firmware. I was able to follow every step until the end, when you have to install the drivers. Once it either gets to installing the NVIDIA or intel chip drivers, the system will black screen and reboot into a screen for repairing windows. Would you happen to know if there’s a compatibility issue with the Xeon x5690 and windows 10? I just don’t know what I could be doing wrong. Love your current videos as always! All of your Mac Pro videos are the best out there for anyone wanted to use these in 2018 :)

Hey mate, there isn't a compatibility issue with Windows and the x5690 chip, I think it's just the nVidia drivers, which graphics card do you have?
@RandomTreeProductions6 жыл бұрын
Vtudio it’s the nvidia gt120, I’ve read up on forums saying that there’s issues with installing drivers for them. I’m trying again this time deleting any nvidia drover installations to see if this helps

Hello, thanks in advance. Maybe I'm dumb, but I'm trying to make this with my 5.1 from 2010 too, in Mojave it does`t work. I change the info.plist and try again to open bootcamp assistant nothing change: Boot Camp is unsupported on this computer. Mojave makes a partition of a system for Apple apps, thats only let the user read from this, and I think, this is the question. I feel very identify with the fellow Aaron Folkrod, I was getting all the parts together to do a full-blown upgrade/overhaul of my Mac Pro Mid 2010 5,1. Any help is welcome. I follow your channel some time ago, thank you bro.

From everything I read Apple fruits patched this method so you can't install W10 via Bootcamp if you run the last Mojave update.Not sure about High Sierra but I'll check to see if I have any Hdds with older an OS.

Thanks for this tutorial. I followed your steps and got windows installed and booting, however, I can only seem to switch between osx and windows using the boot-loader. I have tried bootchamp among other things and it refuses to work. Question, If i have my mac compatible graphics card plugged in alongside my gtx 1060 will the boot screen appear even if i just have an hdmi cable plugged into the 1060? Any help would be greatly appreciated. Cheers
@headsoftech6 жыл бұрын
It won't appear but it will load up, so you can still use the keyboard and mentally select the OS, whereas without a compatible graphics card, the boot loader will just hang.
@headsoftech6 жыл бұрын
Note: I just tested this with the Mac compatible card in slot 1 and RX580 in slot 2, not an nVidia, but it should function the same.

Hi Vtudio thanks for this upload. I have done everything you have said in the video, however when i boot from the usb stick i am presented with the win 10 startup repair blue screen. Any ideas?
@headsoftech6 жыл бұрын
Hey mate, can you give me a little more information? Does the repair screen appear after you setup the partition and reboot the system to boot into the USB installer? Or is it at the end after Windows is fully installed?
@jaystallwood6 жыл бұрын
Vtudio thanks for quick reply. Bootcamp creates the usb stick then asks you to select what drive to install on. Then the mac reboots and i get the Windows 10 "your computer could not start" blue screen
@headsoftech6 жыл бұрын
Hey mate, just working through the process, so the USB stick with the Windows 10 installer is made using Bootcamp Assistant, then you select the USB stick to boot from and the installer reports that it could not start? Can you let me know which model Mac you're using for the install? Secondly, did you get the ISO from the official Windows page?

Hi, so i am trying to do this exactly as you say, but I am having a problem when I go to install windows support software it gets about halfway then say the the drive does not have enough space when really it is a 32 GB usb drive. I have also tried a 64 gb drive. It does this for me on my mac pro 1,1 and my late 2011 macbook pro. Is there something i'm doing wrong?

You'll need a Mac compatible graphics card to install via USB, if you don't have one try the DVD version of this tutorial. To switch between macOS and Windows re-watch 5:35.

I am having a persistent problem. I started out with an 8 GB USB stick. It said that the bootable USB drive could not be created, there is not enough space on the disk. I try with a 32 GB stick. Same problem. So i got fed up and used a spare 1 TB hard drive. SAME PROBLEM, SAME MESSAGE DISPLAYED. I am pretty sure that Windows is much much smaller than a terabyte. also, in our comments section itself, 2 more people have had the same problem within the past 2 weeks. Would really appreciate it if you would solve our problem. P.S. I am using a 27-inch mid-2011 imac for this.
