An error may occur during installation. I had that too. You need to close the installation window. And the program is here: C:\Program Files (x86)\Windows Live\Photo Gallery You can right-click to Start or Taskbar or create a shortcut to Desktop.

It is normal to get an error message during the install but it normally does still install. If you are sure it hasn't installed then I can only assume your system is corrupt and I would recommend getting someone to look over your computer.

Useful and helpful, Thanks. (A very minor point: I might have called this the ribbon version that came around 2007-2009, and was wrapped up in the Live Essentials Stuff. Before that there was the standalone Movie Maker non ribbon version that came with XP and Vista. I might have referred to that as Classic Movie Maker, but no big deal. A few Vista machines came with both as standard.)

Microsoft confused the issue a bit, because this new version was originally called Live Movie Maker, but then some time later they dropped the word Live when referring to the movie maker wrapped in Live Essentials.

Absolutely brilliant. Easy to follow. Every step worked perfectly except I did get the error message. I just clicked "close" on the error message but as stated in this video, the app was there and it opened. Did a test edit and it worked. Thank you!

Just to clarify, I got the error message saying download didn't go through - try again ? or close ? I checked my start menu and saw the program was installed after all so I went back to the window and clicked "close". The downloaded version did work and is still working today :)

I have since deleted my original version of The Classic Movie Maker as it was no longer recognising data from memory cards and redownloaded the Windows essentials 2012 as per your guide. Sadly the result is just the same. Curry's helpline says this old program may work for a while and then problems such as I have been having are quite likely. Is this true? Is there any way forward to get this valued program working again as it used to? Have any other people who have followed this guide had similar problems?

Thanks for your feedback, I have not not heard of anyone else having this particular problem, you could try copying the data from your memory card onto the hard drive and see if Movie Maker will read it from there. Also see if you can play the videos that are on your memory card, they maybe in a format that your computer does not have a codec installed that will read these files. If you cannot play these files then you could try installing the K-Lite Codec Pack which may help you can download it from here codecguide.com/

By repeatedly trying I did manage to create a video that plays normally, consisting of five clips. That plays normally as things used to. Initially it would only copy four of the five clips but I kept on trying . Before this problem occurred I was able to make about a dozen multi clip videos that went on to KZbin quite normally. Then clips that went in initially dropped out randomly then it wouldnt recognise any on a card. I have tried to download the codec pack you mentioned but that won't download! Help!@@cwtek1

The solution to this problem has now been found luckily! The problem was in my computers USB input path. My computer had to to be reset to as it left the factory condition to clear it. Now windows Movie Maker works fine once again after I reinstalled it as per your info. Thank you.

I am wondering if perhaps I shouldn't be trying to reinstall the file on top of the defective file I already have. Perhaps I need to delete the defective Movie Maker first and then try to re install it? I did come across a notice saying I already have it. What do you think?

As the video says you will get an error when installing on some systems it will look like its not installed but in most cases it has installed and works perfectly well, so a search for movie maker on your start menu, just click the start button then type on your keyboard movie and it should show up.

All I have installed is the defective Windows Movie Maker which now drops and cant recognise new data. Do you think I should delete that first to allow another download to get in? I am reluctant to do that and lose all its data unless its the only way forward. One problem though, if you watch it you'll see that the screen proportions don't match (there's black borders north and south in the actual video.) I understand the MSWMM file is the project file it does not contain the video itself, just data for edit points etc, Windows Movie Maker 12 can only open Project Files created in Movie Maker 6 (Windows Vista) and Above, if its not opening you will need to import the original video file into Movie Maker and make your edits again. If anyone else reading this has any other solutions then please feel free to post.

Mine looks completely different. Movie maker is not at the top with a tick box but below with no tick box but if I do click it it goes to install but it hit 12% and then after about 30 minutes later it come up to say there was an error and couldn't install it. I also didn't have the video editor using the photo way either.

I am sure there was two with Windows 7 one was included with Windows Live 2011 and the other was with Windows Live 2012, I am sure this is the 2012 version not sure if 2011 will work with Windows 11.

Try and see if you can find the movie maker in your start menu, it will often say its not installed correctly but you often find it has installed!

1. Downloaded the file but I had to download IDM (internet Download Manager) in order to do this. 2. Installation got to about 60% then I got an error message; tried download again but the same thing happened. I clicked "Get Help" but the only thing that happened was that Microsoft Edge opened with the usual run of BS adverts. (N.B. I am using a new Dell Inspiron loaded with Windows 11, fo I will just keep using my Dell Inspiron (2012 Windows 7 but with a new SSD loaded with Windows 10. Thankd for thte video anyway.

Just tried it on my computer again running Windows 11 22H2 (latest version as of Nov 2022) and it works fine, it did not download IDM, just installed Movie Maker and Photo Gallery, if you had to download IDM then it sounds like you have malware on your computer, please get it checked out.

Unfortunately, I do not know of a fix for this error, but you could try restarting your machine, do not shutdown, actually restart, turn off your Antivirus and try reinstalling.

a mswmm file is a project file for Windows Movie Maker, you would need to load it up in Windows Movie Maker then Save it as a WMV file then us some thing like adobe express to convert from a wmv to mp4. See adobes website here its free to convert www.adobe.com/express/feature/video/convert/wmv-to-mp4

You do get an error when installing but it should still work ok.

@@obaidurrehman4620 Check to see if it works, even though it failed the installation it often has installed ok,.try and see if you can find it on the start menu and all apps.

I had that too. You need to close the installation window. And the program is here: C:\Program Files (x86)\Windows Live\Photo Gallery You can right-click to Start or Taskbar or create a shortcut to Desktop.

If you got an error message when installing you may find that it installed anyway, its normal to get an error message!
