How to Install Windows XP Service Pack 3

Restoring an old 2001 Toshiba back to its original XP configuration - which, of course, was very broken. To get it going with modern browsers (chrome, FireFox, Opera, other) so I can access files online because it's IE version is 6, which is also very broken, needed to find a standalone (using another computer) version of XP SP3x to install and see if that smooths things out. Going Retro on 2 older computers, bypassed MS activation, now needing SP 3 to load Nvidia driver. MS site not easy navigate for correct version but did find a small update that fixed reboot loop due to AMD processor.

SP3 would not install on my XP professional computer. The message was that the hardware was unsuitable??

Setup has detected that the version of the service pack installed on your system is lower than what is necessary to apply this hotfix. At min you must have service pack 3 installed. Message I get when try to install service pack 3. Whats wrong?

Do you think that there would be a security issue running XP in VirtualBox with integration with Linux as a host? I would probably install USP4, but for games that don't work well under Wine it seems like a good option.

Right now I need xp. For off line use. I’m not taking on Linux ! I have a pci sound card that blows away all the usb stuff Thats out now. And can’t afford a new pcie sound card for zero latency Audio recording. And I’m sure I’m not the only one. Thanks

Safe, and legal, yes. See other comments on the download page. This is a service pack, not Windows XP. If I were you, I'd dual boot or buy a cheap old computer.

Thanks just got the sp3 from your website n will be installing it later, my question is do i need to backup my files or should i just go in with faith.... 😂😂😂 its an old machine with 512MB RAM, and a pentium 4.... I know.... Am just clingy like that... 🤣🤣🤣 but i dontt want to loose the files, will setting a system restore help!??

The files start extracting and I see the folder appear in C drive but when it finishes nothing happens and the folder just disappears. Can anyone help me?

I had a pretty weird experience with the 'System Builder' version on those pretty genuine M$$$ CDs. I bought two, back then. Anyway, I bought a PC for £20 recently that had Win 7 on it and of course no disks, network password blad-de-blah. Not bothered, want a simple PC to do a simple job. Installed my XP SP2, great. Installed apps, great, but one wanted SP3. Up to this time as with other installs, no activation required. Installed SP3 and it then locked me out on reboot because it said my keys were wrong. Fortunately, I was able to do a Restore Point from Safe Mode, but... Well, if these were pirated CDs, they must have spent a fortune on holo images in the CDs and special paper stickers with all the anti-tamper tricks in them. Anyway, if you do have SystemBuilder CDs, then watch out. This PC was not (and will never be) connected to the Internet, so I'm guessing the new SP3 code seeks out System Builder installs and destroys them.
