Just bought a 2016 FJ09 . Loved the video and love the sound of the yoshimura header pipe . I think that I may look into getting some someday soon. Also love the fact that you wear gloves for safety and that your careful to torque things properly . Being exact and precise and careful helps keep the bike more pristine . Back when I was 12-17 years old I had 7 different bikes and knew nothing of torque wrenches and quality tools . I used $10 socket sets and wrecked screws and bolts over the years . My FJ will have each nut, bolt,screw and part carefully and perfectly in order .

Hahaha...thanks for noticing. There is a time and place for torque. You should see us though in a race setting when there is no time. If one of our riders crashes and there is no time to button every single thing up, our swarm of techs has a pattern of important and less important fasteners to tighten. We do use good tools though, and then after the event the bike is torn down and rebuilt in a professional manner.

Anybody watching this as a first timer please DO NOT RE-USE your exhaust gaskets!!! Maybe if your bike has less than 1k miles. They're $5-10 at your local parts store, do not cheap out and re-use them and risk an exhaust leak. I was kinda shocked TST tells viewers to re-use them!!

Been reusing exhaust gaskets for years on our many bikes including serious build. We replace them when they deform, which is usually after we get someone inexperienced wrenching on the bike not paying attention to sequence and torque. If you follow the proper sequence and torque value you don't have a problem.

I think by default you should run at least a remap because you are removing the catalytic converter from the equation. Bike will definitely run lean.

Does anybody know if on the headers - those circle rings (not the gasket but the metal plate that gets bolted overtop) is supposed to sit perfectly flush or not? I forgot when starting and I notice a small small gap but everything feels and looks perfect and tight just those metal brackets holding the header against the engine have a small gap between

They are supposed to have a gap. An equal gap on both sides of the clamp

This tutorial is straightforward & easy to follow. You have my thanks. However, mine is MT09 TRACER and I would like to use the same model exhaust shown here but I don't want to sacrifice my double stand. Is that doable? Please advise.

Oh man, I am sorry. I don't think I will be able to help you much. We have not had a Tracer 900 in the shop yet so we can't verify the fit for you. If you contact Yoshimura though they will most likely be able to advise you. They have a great group of people working there so someone will gladly answer your question.

Awesome video. Do you have to get it tuned or an ecu flash after installing a full yoshimura system? I have a 2009 cbr 600rr.

We have seen many people just slap on parts and go. While this will produce some kind of effect, the job is not finished until the bike is properly tuned. If you are installing a full exhaust and not tuning the bike you are wasting your money.

I wouldn't reuse exhaust gaskets, yeah you can get away with it but they are literally $5 and saves you a potential head ache in the future.

I mean....if you've installed one exhaust you can pretty much figure out them all. Especially on a naked bike. It is so easy. And on the 7 you have one less primary header tube so it is easier.

Hi just wanted to confirm the torque settings of 20nm it seems very low and my torque wrench doesn't even go below 30 nm

You can check against Yamaha service manual. 20 nm is roughly 14.75 ft lb. Head to header connections on most bikes are 12-15 ftlb on the M8 studs. So the given torque spec sounds correct. We typically get that sepec right from service manual. In our shop we have a set of torque wrenches , each for a different scale of torques. If you want to achieve proper torque in the lower ranges you will need to invest in a torque wrench that operates in that range

You can run it as is but you will not unlock the full potential of what the exhaust can do for you without a proper dyno tune. A high performance air filter would be a good addition to the bike before you go to tune. This way you can see the optimum results from simple bolt-on parts.
