I remember stumbling into an undiscovered system a couple of years ago while flying my old pre-nerf jumpconda. I was just a tourist heading back from the Eagle Nebula, had no idea how to use the FSS, and ended up manually searching for the planets by flying around and looking to see which of the "stars" around me were moving when I moved. Took about three hours but it was worth it to see my name on the Galactic Map. Felt like an utter moron when I got back to Pleiades and was told I could have mapped it all in about 20 mins if I'd just pressed the correct button

I didn't know about that!! I've found an entire system manually when I was going to NGC 7822 (dunno if this is the correct name), it was like 2 hours doing this. But it was fun to see when all the bodies became visible :)

I remember spending so much time exploring systems in ED before it had SCO and FSS - or even engineers. I Left the game for a long time because of the grind. Recently came back and now use FSS every clean system. Jump in, fuel up, SCO for a few seconds then dead stop and FSS (less chance of planets being behind a star and unable to be scanned that way). So much easier and I'm quite impressed with some of the improvements to the game. Very nice video, definitely worth a sub.

The other giveaway will be in the FSS Scanner. As soon as you identify the planet, the bottom of the screen will show the name of the first explorer who discovered it. Your name will be on the planet if you sell the data before anyone else does. You also get your name on it if you were the first to map it with the detailed surface scanner, which is easier to do since many explorers skip the icy or rocky moons.

Been playing since almost the beginning and I noticed this years ago. So if you find one with only the star showing, check. The planets may still be waiting to be discovered.

If any of the bodies are in the narrow field of view of your automatic scanner (the one that reveals the star), you'll see them appear too. Usually no more then 1 or 2 as the odds are pretty slim that more than that will be directly in front of you.

@shadowmystery56137 ай бұрын
That's not entirely true, if a system has already been visited you can see that on the main star you've been to. On the other stuff I have to agree though, if you only see a star but don't get the voice message "System Scan Complete" the other bodies just haven't been FSS'd yet. I got into a lot of already discovered systems that just weren't scanned yet on my fast 5'000 Lightyears excursion to unlock Thruster Engineers.

Is this game worth getting into right now? Are there many random events while playing or is it mostly go from point A to B without interruption? I enjoy random encounters or seeing NPC traffic do things like trade, fight, etc with some meaning (not just random, but with a purpose, like faction vs faction, pirating, or whatever). I've also got a VR headset...considering using it to play, but not really sure if I should even try getting into Elite dangerous or not at this point.

What is the purpose and or difference when simply "HONKING" a system vs assuming there is one, scanning the NAV beacon.
@larrydlam7 ай бұрын
The nav beacon will give you station locations and other info that you won't get from just honking.

Scanning the nav beacon identifies all the signal sources for you, which is helpful when you have an assassination mission target or you're looking for high grade emissions.

@@AaronT-TX For what?.. By the way, could you tell us how "not discovered" systems appear in EDDB catalogue? ))) You are wrong in your suggestion. Before an FSS was introduced, we had to approach to a planet to let it appear on a radar. Now it's enough to run a full system scan. This is why there are undiscovered and discovered but not scanned systems which do not show planets on a radar.
