It looks like your roof has no ridge cap. How is the hot air ventilated? Even with the baffles is seems that the heat would collect at the top and cause mildew? I am trying to decide how to insulate the roof of my shed and I keep hearing you need a ridge cap to ventilate properly?

what is that you put up on ceiling prior to insulation?
@DIYHomesteadProjectsDIYHP10 Жыл бұрын
They are called rafter vent baffles. They keep a ventilation gap between the insulation and the roof sheathing so that you don't get moisture between the roof and the insulation as the roof surface heats and cools.

They are Durovent Rafter Ventilator to keep an air gap between the insulation and the roof sheathing. This allows air to flow between the soffit vents and the ridge vent to prevent mold, mildew and rot on the underside of the roof decking.

Since the air flows from the soffits up to the ridge vent, it appears you overlapped them incorrectly. Moist air can be drawn up and under the top foam panel introducing moisture into your insulation.

@DIYHomesteadProjectsDIYHP1010 ай бұрын
I suppose it would make a difference. How much of a difference depends on the environment where the shed is built. In my opinion and location the difference is not worth the cost and effort for the shed I built. Also the shed I built is not going to be lived in, just used as a workshop and storage. I do live in a fairly dry and low humidity location.

This video shows how not to install baffles. Once you install the first, the overlap of the next baffle goes on top not underneath. You defeated the purpose of the ventilation system. Bad video.
@DIYHomesteadProjectsDIYHP10 Жыл бұрын
If you install the baffles the way you claim is correct, if you have a leak in the roof or any condensation it will direct the water or moisture directly into your insulation. Either method will not affect the purpose of the ventilation. They will both vent the underside of the roof sheathing. Bad comment.
@baseballfanatixx121 сағат бұрын
what are those panels you put before the insulation? Are they mandatory?
@DIYHomesteadProjectsDIYHP1013 сағат бұрын
They are baffles for the ridge vent. If you don't have a ridge vent or soffit vents you don't need the baffles.
