For anyone else considering the same, I'd really only ever use de-foiled Celotex to fill accessible voids - this has by far the best U value short of Aerogel, or possibly aircraft fabric insulation if you can get it. I also use window frame fixing foam to fill any other voids I can get it into. Admittedly on a single glazed window van with an open cab the U value isn't really going to matter so much. Remember reflective finishes only work with an air gap and tend to condensate terribly, and the bubble wrap style insulation is essentially useless in any application. I don't meant to slate the video at all, it's a thorough job but anyone considering insulating a van should bear this all in mind.

Tbf I agree, but it comes down to cost and the average van diy enthusiast isn't going worry too much. I've seen camper conversion companies that do a very basic job and it works. This video is aimed at helping anyone who wants to do it themselves (on a budget) like I mentioned in the videos, if you can get hold of better products go for it 👊🏻

worth thinking about benign insulation materials such as Thermafleece which provide both thermal plus some sound insulation. The VW electrician was overjoyed it wasn't that 'itchy stuff' which I think we should be putting nowhere near human beings. The van is a metal impermeable external shell so avoiding sealing any cavity areas and reckon allowing some internal 'breathing' of everything inside the metal skin is a good idea. I wish there was an option for the plastic carpet internal lining material.

Is it possible to also insulate the noise coming from the bottom/road and from the engine?
@imaliastv41253 жыл бұрын
Yes just need to get sound deadening. Just do some research on the thickness, to allow your floor to still go down over it

For future videos, no more yellow lettering, too hard to read.

For dyslexics its actually easier to see yellow fonts rather than white. I will say the style of font above is a bit harder to read quickly due to the style of the font. Please KEEP the yellow font for those of us with sight issues or dyslexia - thanks.

Hi, thanks for taking the time to film it, tidy job. Why the white foam and loft insulation? Any opinion for insulating the floor?
@imaliastv41258 жыл бұрын
hiya, thanks for watching. I think if im honest, I was only going to use the fibreglass but then researched showed that the fibreglass can slip down, so I replaced the inner layer with Dacron which is suppose to hold it in place better, if fitted like I have. this is why I went for it. I had the Dacron spare which was handy. I will be checking the insulation on occasion for any damp... there are several option again for the flooring, I will more than likely use the Dacron again between the battens before I foil tape it, ply and altro floor. This will be my next video after the wiring so if you're subscribed you can see the way I do it, if you haven't already done yours by then. thanks again, hope it helps.

+I'M ALIAS sounds reasonable. For the floor- heat rises, I was told, and just had ply and altro floor in my last camper. Next one I do I'm going to try and get it to be warm (ish) inside but don't want to loose space to insulation. Looking forward to more vids and dance tunes!! cheers

+DocKandTBW yeah there's a lot of different way ways to do it. I am personally going to sound deaden the floor before I put Dacron down, forgot to mention, anything to reduce that road noise! And rattling when I get my system pumping 😜... Aiming to do the floor in the next couple of weeks... Keep you posted and thanks again
