This is the type of insulation I used at my home in New Braunfels, TX. It wasn't to keep out the cold, but the afternoon sun was brutal in the summer as my garage faced west. After the installation, the garage became livable for my cats. Great video, BTW.

Found a kit at Lowe's and installed. This was my hubby’s Father’s Day gift. Now just gotta replace the weatherstripping and make a hole for the exhaust for the stand alone air conditioner. I’m excited. This was a great tutorial.

Great job Jim!! That purpose insulation definitely looks a lot more forgiving than just plain rigid Styrofoam that people have used. Nice to have the relief cuts in back to give the flexibility to fit it snuggly without snapping into a hundred pieces! Also, good job on measuring every panel, because as you stated, they might not all be the same!

Interesting video. However I wonder how much overall weight the great stuff & foam add to the door. Also doesn't the air usually leak from the seams between panels and outside edges?

Yes it does add weight but very little.

I have had 2 kits for almost a year. Just got around to installing them now and discovered that a double car 8' tall door needs either 3 Large kits OR 2 Extra Large kits. Home Depot site did not make the distinction. Unfortunately, the kits are in short supply right now. 🙄

Quick question to speed things up. Why continue to keep measuring each panel if they are pretty much the same length? If the measurements are the same why not just use a freshly cut panel to perform the next cut before placing in the door. Sort of rinse and repeat and save some time. Asking for a friend. BTW, Great video for the DIY person. Great way to save a few bucks for a couple of cold ones.💪🍻🍻

Nice video. Did the panels you used have an R value? I heard that you were using them in a cold climate but was curious as to how significant the insulation was? I am going to use some sort of insulation in a very hot climate (Arizona) and for my use I believe I need a high R value to accomplish the type of insulation I need. Your thoughts. Ill bet those doors you show are steel.... not aluminum.....put a magnet on them.....that said, good info shown on the hard-insulation panel install. However....DO check the additonal weight. For a 7 x 16 double door.....the extra weight for THIS insulation may be 34 extra pounds...and it may require either new door springs or a re-tensioning of the springs.

How do you remove a panel without breaking it in to pieces , i want to fix a dent
