The tip at 2:22 is a lifesaver. I always struggled to play against players who Pon/Chii because I only took turn # into account but now I am getting better.

You have a great eye for detail! If you're playing Mahjong Soul, here's a tip: Check your opponent's Call-Rate. If their Call-Rate is low (below 35%), increase your vigilance. On the other hand, if their Call-Rate is high (above 45%), you can lower your guard a bit. Adjusting your strategy accordingly will greatly improve your game!

Interesting tip :O Usually, I never check other people's profiles and close my eyes before the match starts so I don't get distracted by other people's ranks since if they are higher rank than I am, it makes me anxious. When I was in Adept, my call rate was 40%. Now that I am in Expert and only play South Rounds, my call rate is 26% with an average score of ~6.6K. Looks like others need to be vigilant of me now lol.

The thing about 4th place rate is that there is a good chance to get 25-30 out of 100, even if it's actually 20% (my is 21% in 350 hanchans). It may take a long time to get positive change. On the other hand, sometimes you get an explosive growth.

Thank you for helping us how to read the stats. Seriously, my Mahjong skill is really freaking bad since all three stats except for Call Rate are bad. In Mahjong Soul, my deal-in rate is 15.06% and my 4th place rate in South is over 28%, and I really need to improve the stats. Usually, a lot of deal-in situation comes from being offensive while opponent is Riichi and right on time my hand is tenpai, then most of the time if my hand is closed I choose to chasing Riichi with the opponent and most of the time I lost that duel by dealing into the opponent Riichi.

My deal in rate is 9%...win rate stays at like 20%, I have a very defensive playstyle but this can also be a bad thing sometimes if you fold too many hands. I think I need to actually work on pushing more hands which is a weird problem to have probably lol My call rate is usually about 24%, I consider myself mostly a menzen player (also helps with defense).

My deal-in rate is 13.5% on about 250 games. However I didn't even understand what defense was in the first 80 or so game, so my current rate is probably closer to 12%. Most of my deal-ins are now when I riichi, though I do still deal into a damaten or open yakuhai hand from time to time.

Thank you for your comment! Except for south4, you don’t need to take damaten-deal-in seriously because the opponent loses his expected value by not declaring Riichi in many cases. As for open Yakuhai hand, I hope this part(2:22) would be beneficial for you.

@@MahjongSamurai Every deal-in I was already tenpai and they called yakuhai in the first set of discards, turn 1 or 2. So it was too early to fold once they called, but you are right, even though I got to tenpai say at turn 10, the deal-in often happens after turn 12 when they were more than 50% likely to also be tenpai.

Could you do a series where you showcase your actual games and comment/explain why you do certain things. There are lot of people doing that kind of videos for chess for example. I feel like that would be great way to learn how strong players play and what they think/why they do certain actions
