How do you keep the ponds from becoming mosquito breeding habitats without a fountain or something to move the water? Also how do you keep small animals from drowning in them?

You can get a small pump with a spout. It can be hidden with water plants. There are bamboo tabletop fountains/pumps.

Goldfish will eat lots of wildlife so best to avoid them in some of the ponds

Only duck weed, they fertilise lots of them big plants and help them grow like the clappers
