Please don’t throw the pads out after using them. Put them in a laundry/underwear bag and wash them on a delicates program and air dry them. Joy can’t also use a metal brush on your dremel and get the dirt of the pads. It’s just money out the window to throw them out after using it for just one time.

Don't re-use pads that have had abrasives on them. Doesn't matter if you wash them with a power washer, there will always be grit contamination. Imagine polishing something at 1000 grit and a single piece of 180 grit carbon finally falls into place and gouges your work.

I have the Dremel drill press accessory, which I prefer as I tend to use my regular drill press over my bench grinder for full size buffing. Besides for the music drowning you out at the beginning a very useful video, thank you.

Nice how-to video. Compound on a microfibre cloth works too, but you were showing us how to polish with a Dremel, so you are bang on topic. My only criticism is that you were standing on the wrong side of the machine. When you get a catch, as you did with the buffing soap, it's going to fly toward you or your face . Standing on the other side leaves it to fly down, which is safer. Also easier to steady the piece.

The dirt is mostly oxidized metal particles trapped in the fibres and wax. Usually people just use the pads until they don't work and them throw them away. You can try washing and reshaping them if you want and might get a bit more life out of them.

That's "polishing compound". It is the "grease" that lubes the process. When you are done it will look black on whatever you're polishing. Wipe it away and, voilá, you have a polished finish. It comes in some of the kits, or you can buy it separately. Or you can use fritz polish or something else. Depending on what you're doing. Hope this helps. Take it easy. Good luck.

@koriko88
@koriko88 5 жыл бұрын
No, this kind actually sucks. They work for a minute, but if you use them with halfway decent pressure or real speed, the screw rounds out the inside pretty quickly and they just start spinning. To avoid frustration, use the kind with a fixed core and the pad attached to the outside. You get what you pay for.

I agree with the other answer. Is it possible u over tighten the pad cause it doesn't take but a half turn to tight and then it's to loose on the bit. Sometimes on the thicker pads I'd u do overtighten u can flip it around and get some grab going through the other side. It's either that or your applying to much pressure to the pad when buffing

@@malcolmcliff-du8qp silver that pure is going to be near impossible to keep absolutely shiny. Commercially made items are often plated with a shiny surface metal like rhodium. For a pure silver, handmade item, I would find that the natural marks would enhance your work. I bet it looks awesome. Some people actually use products to speed up the effects of wear on silver artificially.

@KiwiPokerPlayer

No, absolutely not. You will fold the edge and it won't be consistent. Leather works best for stropping. Glue a strip of leather to a piece of wood. A leather belt will also work in a pinch.

Usually means your tool is spinning too fast or you're applying too much pressure, instead of evenly applying the wax/compound to the surface you're melting and "burning" it, find an old piece of metal and test your wheel on that, find what's right for you setup and for you

How do you make it not streaky? Whenever I polish metal with this set up, the polishing wheel leaves a trail wherever it hits. Even after I completely polish over the surface evenly, it looks like I scribbled all over it if that makes sense. The wheel doesn't polish evenly and just streaks everywhere. Kind of like when you fill in a area on paper with an ink pen. The area is all the color of the ink now but if you look carefully you can see all of the scribble lines the pen made into the paper.
@l.a.marcellus7579
@l.a.marcellus7579 5 жыл бұрын
Verify this; I believe the streaks are from using too much compound, use sparingly and frequently. You should be able to detect when you need to reapply more compound. Don't apply to much to the polishing wheel. I haven't seen anyone mention it yet so verify this as well; the different color bars indicate size of the grit/particles in the wax. It is the grit that does the polishing, the wax is just to hold the grit and get it onto the wheel.

It's not wax. It's very likely green rouge. Good for final stage polishing of stainless steel, steel, brass, aluminum, nickel and chrome. It is a very fine grit chrome oxide compound embedded within glue or a grease binder.

Does the wax feel like a rock almost like a sanding Rock that's the only thing I can find in my kit I don't think mine come with wax . I have a long squared shaped piece like yours but mine feels more like a sharpening tool than wax. Will that even be used for anyways in a rotary tool kit, that's crazy it didn't come with wax because it's a 208 piece rotary tool accessory kit 🤦🏻‍♂️

Is your wax in a little plastic barrel shaped container? Some people sharpen the points of drill bits, ergo, sharpening stone.

Any one got a good method to remove scratches of precious metals
@nickwiley3655
@nickwiley3655 4 жыл бұрын
Depending on the depth of scratches start with a fine sandpaper, say 500 grit and wet sand it. Then move to 800 grit and went sand again. Keep transitioning until scratches are gone. I like to use super fine steel wool and then a worn out scotch brite pad for the final 2 steps before I hand polish with a microfiber cloth.
