I am glad I have come across this video, A small pointy carbide burr is just what I need to get into really tight places that need rust removing prior to welding in a patch on my car. I have been trying all sorts to clean up the edge of a rusty steel part which I am welding the patch on to, 6mm drill, piece of old round file, filing with a small flat file but crikey its realy hard to get it "bright". But now with a small burr in my rotary tool I can FINALLY get it done. THANKS.

Use the ball shaped one to carve wavy lines in aluminum plate then anodize the plate and dye it. BTW, if you clog up carbide with aluminum just give the bit a bath in 25% lye(sodium hydroxide) solution and your bit is good as new

There are several materials other than diamond with hardness higher than tungsten carbide. Examples are silicon carbide, boron carbide, and boron nitride.

I need to grind the head off a badly rounded off 10mm bolt thats in a recessed hole in a very tight spot on my engine. Would carbide burrs used with a dremel be able to grind the head off the bolt? I cant cut it with a cutting wheel as its in a recessed hole. I cant drill it bcoz i cant get a drill into it. A dremel is the only way i can get into it.

Nice! So I can use these tungsten carbide bits to drill (or widen) holes in aluminium more than 3.2mm (perhaps drill a ~3mm hole with a regular drill bit, and then use a conical tungsten carbide to widen it to needed width, like 5mm and 10mm in my current use-case) ?
@Andrew-my1cp5 жыл бұрын
I have the same question just in my case I'm looking to use steel.
@blueckaym5 жыл бұрын
@@Andrew-my1cp , as far as i know steel is easier, while being harder than aluminium (but nowhere near tungsten carbide) steel doesn't gunk up on your bits as aluminium does when worked with finer bits with higher friction (ie heat).
@Andrew-my1cp5 жыл бұрын
@@blueckaym oh okay. But the bit can cut both materials right?
@blueckaym5 жыл бұрын
@@Andrew-my1cp , tungsten carbide is much harder than aluminium, steel and also hardened steels, so it wouldn't have trouble with cutting thru them. Also these bits should live much longer than regular high-speed-steel (hss) bits. Just if you're using them on aluminium try to use the lowest speed to avoid overheating the alu and getting it gunk over the bits.

How do you deal with chips? I did some die grinding for the first time on my airstream frame and was covered in razor sharp chips. Fortunately i was outside and wore eye protective gear and a nylon jacket. Hands got several embedded splinters.
@Dicknballz525 жыл бұрын
Wear a long sleeve and seal your wrists/gloves off with rubber bands so the small pokey bits wont fall in there. Learned that from fiberglassing. My left forearm is the only place that gets it hard enough to hurt/poke in mostly because I hold everything with it close so I usually just cover one arm up and use one glove. Try to angle it away from you. Use a loofa with dawn to clean up, tweezers to pick em out lol. Use a strong neodym magnet to pick chips off yourself as much as you can, brushing/rubbing them off will stick you some. You can also set up magnets to catch the chips if its magnetic metal.

If you have a air compressor blow yourself off. If you dont get one. A used 6 gallon pancake one can be found all day on Craig'kst 50-60. And those 3 gallon 100 psi ones $30-40 new only good for inflating and Dusting things off . But those 6 gallons panckes ones can do more then people think. I can run my small touch up paint gun. Auarita mp 101 and if will cycle off and run sprayit sp33000 lvlp gun intermittent. With some catching up. Air compressor is a must have with grinding and sanding can never dust off the piece to much before paint. I can't do 220v here so I parallel 2-3 compressors from Craigslist or a good sale. 26 gallon kobalt, a 6 gallon Porter Cable right now. Combined is 7cfm @90 12@40 I have a T fitting and run both compressors to a portable air tank. 7 gallon from Lowe's. And run mt line from there. Both are 150 psi compressors. If they weren't I'd inatabll a one way ball valve or lower the regulator on the higher compressor when I have a 3rd on one thats llower 40 gallons of 150psi and nearly 3hp in motors. I can paint a car straight through without stopping. For $300 can get 2 harbor frieght 10 gallon 5.5 cfm compressors for and have 11 cfm at 90. Your basic entry level 60 gallons run 10-13 for twice the money. Just use separate breakers
