Stefano Ricardo, do you think any book from the 19th century is rare? At that time, books were already being printed in very large counts. Especially at that time, many Christian books were being produced. Although I live in Russia. And I say more for the printing of the Russian Empire.

Rare books are fun to collect and own, but it is almost impossible to sell them with profit, that's why they are not an investment.

I once met a man that said the same about stocks: he treated them like a game. The trick is not using a love for books outweigh the investment value; I love books, but when I collect books to hold value- they're not generally things I'm going to be reading again and again. Rare books are rarely the most enjoyable to read in my humble experience

It’s easy. Don’t invest in rare books and avoid specialist book dealers who charge double the price compared to what you could but the same editions from at auctions

Old books are not hard to find... Here in Europe there´s plenty, ( Special in old towns or villages), however must of them are in bad shape and in Europe they are not as valuable as in the USA.

@Rijkaard or English may not be their first language. Their point is true about it being harder to find rare books now, but you can still get lucky at yard sales or estate sales.

I collect old and some rare books and they aren't that difficult to find at least for me. Here in the US you can find plenty of old books at thrift stores, flea markets, yard sales, and antique shops. I find almost all my books there. Then again my collection isn't that big but you can still find some good stuff out in the wild.

You don't have books on your phone. You have the rendered contents of books on your phone. Very different. About the same difference between a person and a photo of them. A book includes, but does not coincide with what's written in it. And, in my view, one should never buy a book for the sole purpose of making money out of it. The profit one could or could not make selling a book they own is accidental. The book is, in its essence, an object of enjoyment, pleasure, inspiration. People who merely want to invest should go the usual ways: buy real estate, mutual funds, stocks, obligations, precious metals etc.
