There is no cure. Yes I got vaccinated. Now I caught omicron. I’d make a video, but I think a lot of people would ask me for solutions, which I don’t think would be useful since I’m not a doctor and I know a lot of doctors, because I went for treatment for long covid and they tell you straight up that they don’t know how to treat this disease and that they are just experimenting. I wish everyone the best of health and I hope some day we can get rid of this.

Hi Derek, 1st off, don't die! That is not an option. You're way too precious and important to us. I hope you get better soon. The secret is to just sleep as much as you want and need. if you need to sleep 20 hours a day for the next, few months, do it! Let your body rest and repair. The more rest you get the sooner you'll recover. Secondly, what you needed here as an intro is a parody of Tai Lopez. There you are, just standing in your garage, in front of the Lambo (The Banas's Lambo = The Bambo!) talking to us about investing. Maybe wear a t-shirt of Tai with the caption, "This is the man we'd like to be" On a serious note, I am seriously going to enjoy your series on investing, programming and machine learning. My favourite, living scientists are Doyne Farmer and Norman Packard. Those guys have lived a life the rest of us can only dream of; trying to beat roulette in Vegas with a computer in a shoe, using chaos theory to predict the stock market. Check out the book, "The Eudaemonic Pie" if you can, one of my favourites along with "Chaos" by James Gleick. This series will be of that ilk. Let's beat the system!

Derek, you talked about minimizing risk. You used the example of having Hershey's chocolate stock and minimizing risk in this investment by buying stock in a company in their supply chain, e.g. sugar. I get that this is because if the sugar stock falls in value then Hershey could benefit from this and so you balance out the value of your overall stocks. What I don't get is why the reverse holds true: if Hershey stock fell, why would its sugar supplier's stock go up? Sorry if this is a long-winded/dumb question. Thanks!
@derekbanas2 жыл бұрын
Sorry if that was confusing. Let's say you were forced to hold Hershey stock. If the price of sugar goes up this may effect the value of your Hersheys stock. So buying it would reduce your risk. This would only be true if in fact Hershey stock and sugar were non-correlated.
@sunmustbedestroyed2 жыл бұрын
@@derekbanas Thanks Derek. Would the opposite work? If you were forced to hold sugar stock (in a sugar company that supplies sugar to Hershey), would buying Hershey stock minimize risk? Because what I don't understand is this: if Hershey stock falls, wouldn't the sugar stock also fall?

Hey Derek, thanks again for your amazing videos! I have now looked at the Technical Analysis series and have looked at the Python for Finance series. However, I have a question. When choosing the stocks you trade or have traded, did you do any further research besides technical analysis? For example, have you also looked at company key figures such as employee growth, sales, etc. for a company or analyzed when a new product is coming from the company? If so, can you also make a video about it or do you also have a book recommendation here? Thanks very much!
@derekbanas2 жыл бұрын
I don't pay any attention to that because that information is normally priced in already. After many years of investing I have only bought a company that unexpectedly dropped a lot in value a few times. Unexpected lawsuits, or CEO corruption is normally the cause and that isn't in the books for a good reason :) It is so rare that I can tell you the 2 companies where this happened over the last 5 years being Generac Holdings and Hexo

Hi Derek, I just finished watching all 13 episodes! :D Tremendous work and thank you greatly for sharing your knowledge in this way with us all. One thing I didn't quite understand, at around the 2hr:38min mark in the video, you begin to explain and generate the random weighting for the 10,000 portfolios. What I don't understand specifically, is why you allow this to be random? (aside from the fact that individually selecting weights for each ticker 10k times is a rediculous expectation) but why wouldn't you assign weighting based on the performance of the ticker? Looking forward to hearing from you!
@derekbanas2 жыл бұрын
Thank you :) I'm very happy you enjoyed it. Everything is random because I don't want to influence the numbers, but instead I want the statistics to stand on their own. You could create more than 10,000 portfolios, but the result will be largely the same. This is a science above all for portfolio creation. The technical side of trading is science with art mixed in. It is a good idea to back test when you think intuition is valuable, but largely the proven science will normally lead you down the right path I have found.
@Boydrone2 жыл бұрын
@@derekbanas ok, that sounds like the most logical approach. And I assume we can also "play" with the top tickers within the top, say, 3 tickers, within each industry and iterate for the fun of it. Thanks Derek! I been watching your videos for 10 years, and learned python and many other things from you! Even now when I have to give interviews I'll brush up on basics by watching your videos! In one of the videos you mentioned, you don't need to change portfolio for 3-6 months, is there a sweet spot? And if I'm looking at Ichimoku over period of 5 years, 1 year, 6 months, 1 month and say create portfolio of 10 companies with given risk etc. would you give more weightage to performance for last month or 3 months etc? And should I look at regression etc you mentioned as well or only analysis using Ichimoku is enough? And now specially when market is under turbulence does above concepts still apply or one should be updating portfolio weekly? I know I'm taking advantage of your generosity and asking to many questions :) Thank you and till next time!

Thank you very much for following my videos :) When creating a portfolio you use Ichimoku to find an entry point. The most importnat thing though is to craft a portfolio that minimizes risk at your chosen risk level. I then rarely change my portfolio unless I have a huge run up in a particular security. I never sell when a stock is down! I'll give you an example. I have Newmont Mining in a portfolio along with AMD. Newmont is up nearly 40%, while AMD is down by about as much. That is by plan. Do I think Newmont will continue this rise? No and I also don't expect AMD to continue to fall. That is where Ichimoku comes in. I want to watch it and when it is triggering a selling / or buying opportunity in either stocks I will reallocate to the stock that previously fell and away from that which went up. When creating your portfolio you have to buy companies that you believe in. That is why I don't buy companies younger than 5 years. A also buy companies that sell products I buy or in which I believe in their basic idea. I have products from McCormick, Procter and Gamble, Netflix, AMD, Nvidia, etc. I also believe in companies like Newmont, Old Dominion, Progressive, etc. And, when they go down in value I consider that an opportunity to buy more. If you valued a product at $50 and then you go to the store and find out it is now $20, do you consider that an opportunity? I hope so. Never put a company in your portfolio if you think you will sell it if it drops in value by 20%. When I see the S&P fall I cheer and buy some more. If it fell by 50% I'd be so excited and buy as much as possible! That is how you must think in regards to investing. Just my opinion and not financial advise because I don't know anything about your risk level. If you can't handle a 20% drop, which is ok and a lot of people can't, I recommend that you stay out of the stock market however.

I really enjoyed your video...but I'm a bit confused with your words that you " absolutely do not sell anything" and yet there's a link to your course. I mean there's nothing bad about a payment-based course but...I jsut don't get it how does it reconcile with your words?

Amazing tutorial! I'm new to investing but learned so much... basically get data, analyse, take the best tickers and make sure they don't correlate too much, then create lots of portfolios with random weights and select the one that optimizes returns for your chosen risk?

Thank you :) Yes that is basically the idea
