JPS member here. Fantastic lesson, Brendan! I've always thought I'm being simplistic because I gravitate toward using Form A or Form B rootless voicings (essentially your Zone 2)when comping for my brother, a jazz clarinetist. But I inevitably get in my own way by trying to add the "fancy" stuff before I really nail down the basics. Needless to say this becomes a real problem as I struggle to keep up with the pace of the soloist. This video gives me "permission" to stay with those lovely classic voicings and continue mastering my rootless major and minor 2-5-1s in both left and right hands with a new sense of purpose. That's good enough for now! Oftentimes less is more and the simplest things are the most beautiful. Thank you for that reminder -- and, as always, for your clear and uncomplicated presentation.
