Thank you very much David!! I had been very much frustrated with all those DIY videos around, in which they do their shows with all fancy expensive tools, high precision jigs etc etc. You are showing actually what I really need and what is real for me. Because I have a hand saw, some pallet wood, a hammer and nails to start with.

I like that nothing is taken for granted in this video. I'm a hobbyist somewhere around intermediate I was still reminded of tricks and techniques that I hadn't thought about in a long time. Experts often assume that some things are so basic they go without saying - would even be insulting to explain. That just leaves beginners in the dark and afraid to ask "stupid" questions. Who's going to want to do something if they've been handicapped like that?

Rustic David Thanks for the tips! Do you have any advice to join two pieces of wood into a corner with a post? I was thinking of doing it with pocket hole joints but not sure if it's appropriate.
@RusticDavid6 жыл бұрын
hi if you go with pocket holes i advise you to reinforce the corner with a triangular block of wood notched to accommodate the leg glued and screwed in the corner i think that a mortise and tenon joint is preferable and you can make this joint using a hand saw and a chisel and a carpenters square to mark the lines i didn't maker a video of this yet but theres a lot out there good luck David

the jig idea is nice but it means you need a different size for each vertical board that you're hammering in (in different projects) however, that first idea with the smaller piece of wood to maintain the stability was a great idea which could be used with various projects and lengths of wood. Thanks!!

Sometimes when I use your method, I like to send the nails in diagonal, and also not parallel to each other. This way they can't easily pull out. Also, when I was a child I preferred the same style hammer as in this video. The sharp claw of other hammers scared me, the handle on this one was small for my little hands, and the head was lighter for easy control while I learned. I still have the hammer and will use it for teaching my children. Thanks for the nostalgia ;).

Hi in answer to your question nails are easy and quick in soft woods driving them at different angles will increase holding power but with time and seasonal movement of the wood they will loosen their grip Screws with predrilled pilot holes are superior to nails take more time and tools to do I hope that helps you Happy Woodworking David

Another way to do it is use small angle brackets and small screws, if you don’t mind the look of angle brackets.
