Clear and informative tutorial on how to cut a mason's mitre on worktops. The 9mm offset was particularly well explained. Probably not necessary on the joint you made, as there was enough of an overhang on the other end. That said, excellent video. Thanks for sharing.👍

I love the look of this, I'm building a maple worktop for my kitchen and was wondering how this sort of joint handles wood expansion.

Tip for you. Bit of double sided tape on the worktop as well as clamps to make sure the jig doesn't move at all

Hi, great video, very easy to understand, but could you explain please, How do you ensure the masons mitre joint is water proof, is that down to the glue you use?
@homeimprovements Жыл бұрын
It is 😊😊😊
@Twotierk Жыл бұрын
You can use colour fill, silicone or a good quality waterproof glue like gorilla

Very informative! One question though, I dont have a 1/2in router but a 1/4in and no router bushing. Could I still use the jig with a bearing bit, or should I just use a different method for joining worktops?
@homeimprovements Жыл бұрын
I’d invest in a 1/2 inch for worktops 😊 lot of power needed

What is the benefit to a mason's mitre as to a regular mitre or butt joint?
@homeimprovements5 ай бұрын
Comes down to the bullnose on certain worktops 😊
@HaveAHuff5 ай бұрын
@@homeimprovements Makes sense. Thank you. 👍
@garyblake313010 күн бұрын
It is a butt and mitre, a masons mitre which derives fro ancient stone masons is nothing like that. go to Lost Art Press and type in mason’s mitre and you will see the line of what he does on here is nothing like this.
@JaySingh-vg3nr9 ай бұрын
Pal can I ask which glue you use to join both worktops together .also do you allow expansion gaps to the rear of the worktops please
@michalzwierzynski56782 ай бұрын
gorilla glue
@francescastevens3777 Жыл бұрын
I have a question, why do you cut the join’s staggered like that & not straight? I am honestly curious. 🤔
@homeimprovements Жыл бұрын
Do you mean why the masons mitre and not a butt joint ? If so it’s mainly used on bullnose tops allows for a seamless joint square edge like this it’s not necessary but we used it to demonstrate the process 😊
@ChrisKennedy789 Жыл бұрын
Great video but why not use biscuits for the joints can be alot easier sometimes i found myself messing about with the joint to much without biscuits but find a whole lot easier with them. Keep up the great work love the videos

A word of warning. Many manufacturers of wooden worktops specifically state that you shouldn't join the worktops using a mason's mitre but should butt joint them instead. So check before you router away,

Not a professional but reasonably competent but this is the first video I've ever seen where you pencil line the male mitre joint line which will allow for any deviance in the wall corner angle.....so bloody blindingly obvious now I've seen it!
@nachobanditchannel3 ай бұрын
Just be careful as if its out of square by a lot, the 'hockey stick' wont line up correctly at the mitred bit and you will have a gap in the join. This is because the pivot point of the male peg closest to the router isn't directly where the router cuts into the worktop, if that makes sense.
@jackadams94283 ай бұрын
Why aren't you using the 600 mm end peg? Then you don't need your 9.5mm offset 😆
@homeimprovements3 ай бұрын
Because that only works on perfectly sqaure walls these are no 🙈
@jimscullion74664 ай бұрын
and the screw thingy is just genius.......cheap jig, very expensive worktop......
