Thanks for the idea to not record painful memories. There’s a meditation teacher who talks about focusing on the good, to “grow the good” because we’re already predisposed by neurology to remember the negative.

Great advice to decide what to record/remember! For me, I think back to my inspiration for beginning, which were my Grandmother’s 5 yr journals. They were mostly just the day to day… how many dresses she sold, what she made for dinner, who she played contract with, etc. but also some tough moments. I really connected to her in all of the moments, but especially when she faced situations that showed me she was human. I took so much comfort when situations resembled ones I had experienced. So yes, definitely take a moment to decide what to record, and remember that you can always alter that along the way.

Thanks for commenting, I'm glad to hear you found this video helpful 😊 That's so awesome that you have your grandmother's journals - that's so valuable and I can imagine that you got to know her on a whole new level and got great inspiration for what you want to write yourself. I wish I had something like that from my grandmother which I didn't get to know at all. You have a very valuable treasure in your hands 🙏🏻

I’ve learned to embrace the gaps/ blank pages. I feel they also tell a story.

To me, it would be interesting to see how I feel differently towards negative things that happened before. They WERE painful for me to remember; but NOW they aren’t anymore. 🥰

Hi, new to your channel. This video is so well done. Starting a 5 year journal in January 2024. Hobonichi. I like focusing on the positive and making those memories grow - especially in this 5 year journal format. Thank you for the tips and encouragement that it doesn't have to be perfect to be meaningful.

Such great idea to only remember the positive memories and then rereading those positive memories make them grow stronger!

Thank you for this. I just heard about a five year journal this week. I will order one today. I have an idea for when you miss a day and you are not home, write it on scrap paper or in a small notebook and then transfer it later when you do have time. I can see myself doing that at work when I did not have time in the morning.

Yes, some kind of notes are good to make so you can remember things. I leave my 5 year journal home most of the time when traveling, but I then use my daily log or other notes to fill it afterwards. Thank you for commenting - I hope you enjoy your 5 year journal 😊

Your story about filtering out the bad memories reminds me of the movie ‘the eternal sunshine of a spotless mind.’ Have you seen it? It takes the concept to the extreme and is not realistic, but I enjoyed the movie. I think your tips and advice are very good. I will try to implement some of them. Thanks 😊

Thank you for watching and commenting 😊 I had to check and my movie tracker says that I have seen that movie but I don't remember the story at all. Maybe I could rewatch it... I put it on my someday maybe list 😅

I just bought a bullet journal so a new journal is not what I need rn but 5 year journals really feel like something I'd like to play with, I've always been bad at keeping up with any type of journaling but I love doodling and so far my favorite part in my bullet journal are the empty parts because I drew on them to an inch of their lives Edit: the bujo will mostly help with planning 😅so I guess I might look for a 5year journal... Also I'm turning 25 next month so it would be a great opportunity

You could also doodle in your 5 year journal if writing feels hard 😉 Oh, a birthday is always a perfect excuse. And I think it would be great to record your thoughts in your last 5 years in your twenties. I feel like turning thirty is a big turning point for many. Are you considering a blank one or with prompted questions? Either way you choose, I think it will be great. I love reading my answers from previous years. I even sometimes understand the question completely different. Maybe that is to show that my English is getting better 😅 or that I just think differently than before 🙂 Thanks for commenting 😊 I hope you have enjoyed using your new bullet journal.

Where can I find that Q and A journal? I would like to get one for my husband and I. I've made it a point to start writing in my daily journal only what I want to remember, too.

I would try any big book stores you have where you live, or for example Amazon has many of the Q & A's. If you are looking for the Our Q&A I would search it with the ISBN 9780770436681. I also have this one (780998235172), because we already finished the first one. Now I also found this option (9781250163431) which isn't familiar to me. I hope you find one that you like 👍🏼
