Hi Lola, I was thinking about starting a 5 year journal for so long, and in July I told to myself: let's do it! So I grabbed a diary I already had in my stash, it has dates on each page, but without the year and obviously without which day of the week is that, so it goes from January 1 till December 31, so I just divide each page into five sections, I write the year and which day of the week it is on the margin of that section, and I'm good to go. To make it even more fun, I decided to track back what happened from 2022 January 1 until mid-July, because then I'll have to wait just half year to experience seeing what happened exactly 1 year ago. So far so good, I enjoy this very much, and it's really just a few minutes each day, really easy to keep up with. I highly recommend!!!

Thats a really fun way to do it. Because you pretty much made your own. Exactly a few minutes a day to write down what happened the day before or that day.

I am in the second year of my Five Year Hobonichi and I do enjoy using the right side for gratitude. It’s interesting to see what I was grateful for the same day a year ago. Some days it’s almost the same exact thing! On the left side, I write out 3-4 newspaper headlines which has proved interesting when I reread them a year later. Five Year journals, I agree, are definitely worth it. Thank you for the video.

Oh that is a very interesting way to use it. Love hearing what people do with their journals. Thank you for sharing.

Ok, you've convinced me to start a memory journal in a 5 year hobo next year!!! I can only imagine the joy of writing in the future years and being able to reminisce along the way. Thanks for sharing ♡

Yes do it. It’s so worth it in the end.

This series is great for those of us who already journal too, to remind us why we should keep up with it and try to be consistent. I am in my first year of my first five year and missed a lot of the last few months so it's reassuring to hear you had a similar experience, and that you can still get something out of it even if you only write a snippet of what you did that day. Ever since the war in Ukraine started I have felt guilty not writing about it, I was kind of surprised to read this morning in the first Hobonichi preview for 2023 that the man who started it all was/is having a similar problem! We humans are so much more similar than we think.

Oh yes we are all connected and I do not mean the internet. Yes the first year was very challenging for me but I was able to still go back and write what I could remember and keep going. So happy I did too. When you’re ready you can always try to do that. ❤️

Inspirational, Lola! I'm actually in the 10 year (my second year) -- decided to do it to commemorate my 50's! But I love your description of how just writing the little things are fun at the end. :)

Oh what a great idea! I have to look it up can’t imagine how big a 10 year would be. That is going to be great to look back on.

I made one from a B6 Cafe Notes and will start it with the new year. If I stick with it I plan on starting a second one once I get married as a "family" record in addition to my personal one

Congratulations! That’s a great idea to document this huge milestone.

I started one this January, it's nice even to see the year passing with filled pages. Also wish I heard about ot when I was starting my five year project, but this way I will see the transition after it's done. The first one I heard about is the Midori one but I couldn't get my hands on it so my friend got me a Leuchtterm he found discounted. No nice illustrations, but does the job

Yes you don’t need any nice illustrations. An excuse to get some cute stickers if you have room left after you write.

May I ask what aspects you find most interesting/insightful to capture? I’m considering: Days main events, Mood, food, intention, synchronicities, reading/watching/listening, learned, weather

Yes mainly what my day is about. Now don’t get me wrong there are days that are. I worked and nothing much. But sometimes it could be waking up and having a crazy dream. Whatever is the main focus of that particular day

I have kept a journal for years. 1 journal for each year. And I have boxes of them. But I really need to get a 5-year journal. I think you might have just talked me into it.

Do it!! It is so great to see it all in one page. There are so many options out there too.

I started a 5 year journal by leuchtturm this year and decided to backlog 2021 ( because I want to start a new one in 2026 when I turn 30) and I have been loving looking back at what I’d been doing a year ago it’s so fun to look at. I actually really wanted a hobonichi one but the thought of it ending on an odd year was not for me so I’ll wait until 2026 😅
@LolaMoretto2 жыл бұрын
Oh that’s so great! And each year it will get better and better. You can have the next when you turn 30 and see if you want to try the Hobonichi then. 🥳

Greetings from Australia. Thanks for your video. I have just ordered my first Midori 5 year diary. I have been journalling since Covid started because I wanted to write an account of how the world coping and the affect upon our lives. I have found that writing has become a way of life. Not a hobby and now I have about 70 fountain pens, many inks and journals. (A very deep rabbit hole) So the five year is a new project. May I ask about the pens and inks used in your 5 year diary? One pen and ink for the whole year or random colours? I'm worried about random inks looking untidy as opposed to the uniform approach changing pen and ink annually. I'd be grateful for your thoughts.

Mine looks like a mess I want to try to stick to one pen perhaps a month? I use muji pen, or my kaweco fountain pen or pilot vanishing point. It is such a rabbit hole! So fun though! Such a great idea to document these past few years!

This is something I wondered and I thought I’d ask- I know your original travel tri-fold had a lot of history & an image of your father, but since you loved that leather so much, how come you didn’t get another one without the pocket? Just curious =)
@LolaMoretto2 жыл бұрын
Honestly because I still think I will find it. So it felt more like another cover that way. If that makes sense. I love the designer pocket so I thought that made it worth buying because it didn’t feel like re-buying the same cover.

@@LolaMoretto I understand. Well I do hope it turns up. I’ll pray to St. Anthony for you ; )
