Hello friends 👋 Thank you all for watching this video! I am so glad that it was helpful to many of you! I thought it would be unfair not to mention about 'side-effects' that journaling can have. Journaling can increase your anxiety and force you to lose your focus, if Stoic principles are not applied correctly. For this reason I have made another video on 'side-effects' of journaling and how to fix them. You can find it here: kzbin.info/www/bejne/sHuroqiHYthpoNk Hope you will find it helpful :)

I've been journaling for many years, It helps me to organize my thoughts and am always looking for different methods as well. Your videos are very good. As Seneca says 'We suffer in our imagination than in reality' is very true, so we can train to change our imagination in positive way, but you mentioned in one of your video, something like- that you don't find very good to imagine the future in positive way, which I couldn't understand that. As I recently watched many videos about 'vision-file', which I think- is quite good to work on our imagination.
@VashikArmenikus
@VashikArmenikus Жыл бұрын
As Seth Godin said: 'You can be confident that your lottery ticket is going to win tonight. But your positive attitude is not going to influence the outcome of the game in anyway.' The purpose of journaling and visualisation techniques is to make you more rational and calm so you could leave the binary perception of life as good or bad, positive or negative. The best 'positive' way of journaling is to keep a 'gratitude journal'. Sounds cheesy, but when you write what you're grateful for you're also training your brain to notice good things that you ignore because you take them as a given. Gratitude journaling helps you to notice things that already exist in your life, instead of imagining 'good positive things' in the future that do not yet exist. This was a long comment 😀 Sorry! Hope it helps! Let me know if you would like me to make a video on this!

-Begin your day in morning with reflecting upon yesterday (on how you spent yesterday) -how you preferred to spent yesterday -try to writtle down things which gives you anxiety (try to be precise and short) (we suffer more in imagination then reality) -put your principles into words(what you want to become,what you believe your values)

@VashikArmenikus
@VashikArmenikus 2 жыл бұрын
Thank you for your kind comment! And a great question. I write from the first person. 'I am thinking... I enjoyed reading this...' , sometimes I write from the third person perspective when I need to look at life from a bird's eye view. :) I try not to write in 'You'... " You need to be better... You need to focus..' Because it may sound accusatory to yourself we often use 'You' to put a blame on someone. So better to avoid it. Hope this helps! Let me know if you have any questions!

What person tense should be used in writing journal entries? In technical writing, for example, the writer should let the "paper" do the talking, not the writer. We were instructed not to use 'I', 'you', 'he', 'she', 'they' etc. Can the same approach be employed in journal writing? A journal entry that uses the first person tense 'I' gives me the impression that the journal is the one to experience whatever event being entered in the journal. I wrote entries in the first person in my other journal, and I guess it can be confusing. Alternatively, if I was writing journal entries in letter form, I might use any of those tenses. I might not do the same in a stoic style journal entry.
@VashikArmenikus
@VashikArmenikus Жыл бұрын
Stoics would use 'You'. Marcus Aurelius, for example, wrote his Meditations using 'You'. If you feel uncomfortable with it, try writing in a letter form the way Seneca did. Maybe draw some inspiration from him. Letter form might help you to articulate what you're struggling with, without sliding into meaningless criticism that 'you' can often lead to. Here's a good translation of Seneca's letters if you would like to draw inspiration from him: amzn.to/3Utytq4

Hi man... Great video. About stoicism, do You practice negative visualization? Its a safe practice to do? (Because its a Little bit in contrast with the self help i think, everyone Tells You to do positive visualization!)
@VashikArmenikus
@VashikArmenikus 2 жыл бұрын
Hi Sal! Great question and in fact I am working on a video about cases when one shouldn't journal. Negative visualization is not recommended if you are prone to anxiety or if you are undergoing stressful moments in your life. Since I am not an expert in this I would recommend you to listen to my interview with Donald Robertson who is cognitive behaviour psychotherapist. I think around 60% into interview he mentions circumstances when he doesn't recommend negative visualization and even journaling to his patients. Here is the link to the interview: artidote.uk/episodes/donaldrobertson Hope this helps! Vashik
