VALUABLE TIP ! Do not put your jump start box in the space where a spare or other equipment. I did and when returning to my car after a two break the 12volt battery was dead and the boot door wouldn’t open, so I had to gain access though the seats, only thing was I’d just loaded my suitcases in the boot ! After a while I just about managed to reach the start box. So my tip is keep it close to where you can get it and have a practice so your not doing this for the first time at 4am like me ! Lesson learnt.

I just bought a Toyota Vitz Hybrid 2019 from a car dealer. It was first registered in Japan and came in Mauritius in 2022. After I bought it from a car dealer I put started it and started tunning the radio. As it had automatic headlights, it completely drain off the battery. I tried to jump start it the traditonal way but it would not start. I panicked and look for a lot of videos to see the right way to do it. Thanks I got your video. It was short and simple. Spot on. Sorry to hear that. If you can then ask assistance from someone who has one or has jump leads/cables to get you out of this situation. Consider buying a jump starter box similar to this or jump leads/cables that may fit neatly inside you car

If you leave it in neutral it will force idle for a while, but I think it switches off after 15 minutes or so.

It would be best to remove it immediately after the car has started as the alternator will charge the battery / batteries

@@DrivewayDudes I took did that along kept the car on for an hour and another 30 minute drive but when I turned the car off I couldn’t it back on When I jump start the battery it turn on again but even after another 10-20 minutes of les info the car on I’m not able to turn it on by itself :/

I had the same problem with a dead battery recently and couldn't jump start it for several hours due to having no other car available. After failing to lock with the key I finally figured a way to lock ALL the doors so I could leave the car unattended. I manually locked both rear doors and the passenger side front door by leaning over to each one from the drivers seat and using the lock mechanism above the internal handle on the INSIDE of each door. With those 3 locked, I then got out of the car, shut the drivers door and pushed the small key eject button on the bottom of the keyfob. That released the manual metal key, which I then used to lock the drivers door from the outside using the keyhole next to the outer handle (I also used that later to get back into the car when I was ready to jump start it)

In the user manual,Toyota call this positive connection tab the "Exclusive Jump Starting Terminal" wow, It's so badly documented for such an essential item

I have a 2018 Highlander Hybrid and agree with the comment about the user manual. The pictures they used were worthless. The hardware for that model is slightly different, but there was the stud protruding upward after removing (actually breaking) the red "+" cover. Could not attach my jumper cables to that. But, next to that stud is a flat metal tab with plastic on one side, protruding high enough to be able to put my clamp on it. Maybe that's what they intended, but I couldn't tell and wasn't sure if the two were connected without a continuity checker. I felt "Exclusive" was perfect. It nearly excluded me from using my cables.
