Good tip on the tool kit. Dude you need to clean the corroded cables on your truck :-D Also the negative cable goes on the bike frame and nowhere near the battery, a spark can cause an explosion.

Once I hook up both ends of jumper cables my motorcycle won’t even turn on when I turn the key. The accessories won’t come on but they do once I take the cables back off

Why would you hook the ground last on the dead battery? you just tried to start the bike. you don't know if there is any battery gases around the battery. you are best to go to a bolt or some place away form the battery. just like doing a car as the last connection will spark. as for starting the car if you have it running and the bike starts, there mite be a voltage spike. going to or from the bike. most electronics will handle %10 change in volts any thing over that will blow thing. so best is keep car off. it best to let the car run and charge the bike battery first for 5 to 10 min. then turn off the car and try starting the bike. this is how you should do a car as well. this will save your computer if there is a spike in Volts. has nothing to do with Amps.

Can turning on the car kill the motorcycle battery?

No, both batteries are 12 volt systems, so it will not kill it. However when the car is running, the car's alternator puts out a slightly higher charging voltage than the battery by itself, and is also capable of higher current (amps), so if anything happens to be connected wrong on the motorcycle, or if there is some other type of problem with it (such as an issue with the bike's starter itself etc), there is a greater chance of damaging something. A car requires much more power (current) to crank the starter, so when jumping another car you usually need to have the good car running to produce greater power for the weak battery, but a bike needs much less power (therefore smaller battery), so the car's battery which has much higher cranking capacity than a motorcycle battery will have plenty of power to start the bike without needing to start the car.

Leaving the car off is more than sufficient enough and better to be safe than sorry. There is more than enough amperage to crank off the battery and leave enough to start the car again

For added safety I would do a couple of things before anything else: 1. remove the all the connections from the car battery; 2. clean the car battery terminals through and through. After the jump-start reconnect everything to the car battery.

How is this any different than jumping another car other than you are hooking it up to a motorcycle. You acted like you were about to do something completely different. It completely drained my motorcycle battery
