How to Keep BIRDS safe from CATS - over 90% effective according to study

On today's episode I show you (2) great ways that you can help prevent Bird attacks from Cats. Many people who have Cats also have birds and bird feeders in their garden. Having both is nice but also can be dangerous for the birds. It's in the Cat's genetics to want to hunt prey and leaving your cat in garden unattended can lead to problems. These are a must if you want to reduce the risk.

My cockatiel was in its cage when it got attacked by a cat that came in our house , since it was in its cage it couldnt really touch the bird so he is ok but he is really scared , i scared to cat away, thats why to never clip your birds wings so they can fly away from danger

I visited Australia decades ago and they had a campaign going to hat your cat! Many people were wearing baseball hats with the slogan hat your cat. The Hat's had cats tails hanging off the back, LOL! With bird populations plummeting worldwide this is something that we should consider. Certainly it is important to spay or neuter your cat!

A feral kitten has killed 5 birds in last 5 days that i know about. I saw her incredible speed today as she grabbed one and sped up the hill. I have to stop putting bird seed on the ground. Maybe i can still put out peanuts for the blue jays. He killed a chickadee. I cried like a baby. Then it was 2 doves, hefty and 2 wrens i think. I can't put a bell on her bc racoons or other predators will get her at night but i can probably get a collar on her. Still there are more cats than her and they won't let me approach. No place i can reach is safe.

Maybe leave some cat food out or raise the feeders higher up. Also watch your cat if you own one while near your feeders.

I'm struggling with a neighborhood cat allowed to roam. I tried the fox urine cat deterrent and it was a wasted $20. It's an unusually small cat so buying a new 7-foot tall pole system stops her from jumping up to grab birds off my feeders. The issue with a bell is that birds aren't conditioned to fear the sound and for the most part, it means nothing to them. I'm an animal lover and would never hurt the cat, but I feel pretty annoyed at the owners. My search continues...

Yeah a long pole for the feeders is a good idea. Get it high up off ground. Good luck with that

Yeah I know what you mean. That sucks. Try to keep feeders high off ground and that might help as well. My cat got on hummer I think too but did not catch him in the act. Sometimes the dive bomb towards the cat or get to comfortable around the cat and then get caught.

Capture the animal and take it to a Cat rescue. If you take it to the humane society they will fix it and return it. Or talk to the owner. I'm past the talking stage and I surely don't want to kill it fcking cat people are so arrogant

This collar/bell combo may work for domestic/pet cats, but right now in my back yard are 5 bird feeders, not counting the back porch, and newly arrived - 4 feral cats. What works for them?

I would raise the feeders higher off the ground away from cats reach

Predator & prey. Both have a right to live comfortably. Keep your cats indoors for many reasons not just birds. Cats get eaten too. It’s the circle of life if you leave them to their own devices.

Apparently the hummers can see color very well so when they see the colors on the cat it is easier to see the cat. That is the theory.

Will work on adult birds, but useless for bird nests on or near the ground.

You may need to keep an eye on the cat while he is in your garden. Or raise your bird feeders higher in the air away from the ground.

I just saw something called a cat bib. Going to give that a try cause the bell isn't working.

I think that might be dangerously big and get caught on fences or tree branches that cats tend to be all over. We live in a rural area where the dangers would outweigh the good.

Actually the collar has a self quick release so if it gets stuck on something the collar will come off automatically.

It is always good to watch your cat as well when outside. Constant supervision is best.
