Hi, I found a gravid female giant 22cm Rain Moth in the Australian bush, struggling. It was a evening after a heavily humid day, and the rain was just about to pour. The area she was laying was about to be filled for a chicken yard. I collected some eggs to save what I could, as she was laying, and have about a hundred or more of them of them sprinkled in the right sort of soil, saved in a sideways cut plastic 2l milk carton, rain sprinkled on, with the right roots buried, for the bardee grubs I read about, to eat after. There were literally hundreds coming out of her, but they were hard to collect once down! I moved her to safety once her paroxysms of laying were over, but she still fluttered on the ground alot, not flying normally. Hopefully normal post laying exhaustion and not permanant damage. We have a strong thing here against taking adult animals out of the Bush and turning them into pets unless actually visually broken and needing needing vet work, and she looked fine physically, huge with eggs at first, just not flying. I hope I did the right thing though. Will I see when the eggs become grubs, and how long do I keep them in that wee tub please? How long between eggs and moth? I'm looking up a recipe for vege mush but is there anything you can suggest feeding the grub stage for when the roots run out? I managed to dig up a strip of the right kind of tree root Google says they eat, but it wont be fresh by the time the eggs hatch/may be too hard? Many thanks, Dr Alicia Manolas

I once got a huge allergic reaction when I touched a big, green, hairy caterpillar, which I would guess was about 1,2 cm long. It made me swell up, it gave me bumps over my whole body, and I could barely breathe. This happened in The Netherlands (West Europe). Does anybody know what kind of caterpillar this could have been?

The truth is, a butterfly sheds scales throughout its lifetime. Butterflies lose scales just by doing the things butterflies do: nectaring, mating, and flying. If you touch a butterflygently, it will lose some scales, but rarely enough to prevent it from flying.

Lovely video, i found a tiny caterpillar on my basil from the farmers market an re-homed it. Its pupated and turned into a moth last night. After much research I believe it's a ermine moth. Any idea what I could feed it and do you think its a good idea to set it free..Ive put some fruit and honey water in a damp paper towel. Need some help. Im emotionally attached but know it should be free to spread its wings. 😢❤.. any recommendations from anyone would be greatly appreciated.

I accidently killed my pet moth, now I feel guilty. I flushed him down the toilet, because he was suffering. I had to make it quick. I want a replacement, but they all keep flying away. I tried with plain brown moths, so maybe that's why. I looked up "A pet moth" So I could learn how to keep one. The guilt of killing that moth is still on my mind. I named him Harry. One day, I accidently hit Harry. He landed on the floor. He was twitching a lot, and he could only move a little. He then just stopped moving, and started twitching a lot more. I had to flush him. It was the best option for him. I still miss him. Hopefully he's doing good up in heaven. Oh Harry... :'(

@@mxnsterzcreatixnz766 hi I am not responding to you specifically but anyone reading this- this is not true! they “go to sleep” because their metabolism relies on warm temperatures, and they die very quickly. freezing small invertebrates is a laboratory standard and is humane according to many reputable sources. crushing, freezing, or exposing them to a humane poison is all okay, and doesn’t cause your friend any suffering. lots of love to those who have to put down a beloved insect

Don't remove them if you don't mind! Butterflies/moths usually lay eggs on a plant that will feed the caterpillars so they should be fine and able to grow up if you don't disturb them :) if you don't want them DO NOT touch the eggs if possible as they are very fragile, instead cut off the leaf and place it outside on the same plant species. Hope that helps! Lmk if you have more questions :)

You can mix suger and water until its dissolved or you can of corse use humming bird necter, i seguest useing s paper towel or sponge so the butterfly/month won't drown or get hurt. Or stuck even in the liquid. I also if you do it right somtimes u can use a toothpick to get the probosus or the tongue mind you out and move it to the liquid for it to eat.
