I know summer is over and I meant to post this a couple months ago…
but here are some tips that may help someone keep their diabetic devices on longer. During the summer, it’s hot and we get sweaty and spend a lot more time in the water and outdoors. Diabetic devices such as the dexcom and omnipod are wonderful tools for managing diabetes but there are a lot of ways we can help out those devices and make sure they’re working to their best ability!
Addie has had type 1 diabetes since 2021 and these are some things we have learned from our personal experience with a diabetic toddler who loves to swim!

I was a Type 1 Mom starting in 1992. Things were very different then. My daughter is still alive and living a good life. I commend you for sharing practical advice. We had lots of education but it was only the experienced MOM's that new how to actually survive T1. My dear husband used to do my daughters first finger stick before he left for work and before she got us. He fished out a finger, stuck it and put it back under the covers. She didnt always wake up but if she did she went right back to sleep. Some people thought it was awful. She thought it was great to "skip" a test. If she was low we did have to get her up to eat. Sigh. Anyway, I enjoy your daughter's attitude and appplaude your abiltiy to make it easier for her.

She's so adorable in the pool! I love the floaty that looks like a lily pad above her for shade! She's living her best life with T1D due to her mom being so diligent! ❤

If your basal rates are not set accurately (i.e. less basal) will Omnipod improve them automatically?

would she pull off plastic wraps/tapes? I’ve seen ppl use that for casts & to isolate wounds they don’t want getting soaked. hell, tattoo wrap might even help! if you can get it off lol

How did you discover that Addy has T1D in the first place, what are the signs? Thanks 😊 Also, is T1D hereditary?

Well not sure about Addie’s experience or family history but my daughter was not gaining much weight, was wetting her diaper super frequently, she was very thirsty and towards the end..soon before she went to the ER with DKA..she was breathing heavy and was fatigued. She was 7 months when she was officially diagnosed with T1. My girl just turned 1 this month! We are slowly learning what it takes to care for a tiny human with this disease. Also, her dad is T1D as well. He was diagnosed at 8…so genetics do definitely play a role.

My daughter was 10. I went away for a week end when she got up the next morning, which was a Sunday I could see had lost a lost of weight. I tested her blood and it was high. SO I was sure she had diabetes, when we called the regular doctor, someone else was on call, he told me I was over reacting and he'd see her in the morning. I talked to a friend of mine! A pediatrician, who told me that I the other guy wouldn't admit her, he would. So we took her into the hospital. She was vomiting staggering and seriously in DKA.The story is much longer, but we removed from the family practice with the doc I loved because I wouldn't take a chance getting the sub doc. She is 42 yo now and living a good life. It is doable. Kid's Can live with diabetes. But it is life changing for the kid and parents.

John Hopkins was doing a sibling study which we made her older brother participate, but when he got older he refused. He HATES shots and blood tests. In any case I do know families with two or more generations or members with diabetes. In one case a brother and a sister my kids age had T1D and their mother's brother and sister but not their mother. It us complicated.

Yes it is hereditary. I have T1D and my daughter does as well. My mom has it and my dad did, he has since passed away. I have an Aunt on my moms side who is and all her children were too. I also have an uncle on my dads side who was as well. My daughters signs where she was thirsty all the time, using the restroom many times throughout the day, very fatigued and slept all the time, and cried constantly. She also get sick to her stomach and throw up. I had hoped it was just the flu or something like that, but being a diabetic myself, I knew in my heart what was going on. I took her the Dr immediately and her sugar levels were over 600. He immediately admitted her to the hospital. She was very young and now is 25 and doing fantastic; we both are. We are watching her children very closely just in case. So far, everything is good at the moment with them.

She was close to a diabetic coma and landed in the ER as a baby, that's how they found out. Her mom made a few videos about it.

So, I see all your videos are ads and one big plug for these devices. Are you getting paid by them for promoting??

So what if she is? T1, even with insurance, is Very expensive, insulin is very expensive. When I wore an insulin pump 6 years ago, they cost $3000. My cgm sensors cost $80+ each every 14 days. There are so many expenses with diabetes. What if she is earning $$ from KZbin? Diabetes is very, very expensive. On top of the money, things go wrong. The concern is always in the back of your mind.

what r u talking about? it’s clearly not an add. if it were an add she would be promoting how great her sugar is with these devices (most of her vids show her highs and lows) and would also never make a video saying these things don’t stay on well in the summer🤦‍♀️
