CHANGING MY 4 YR OLD’S INSULIN PUMP & CGM!

Having a toddler with type 1 diabetes, there is always a rollercoaster of emotions! During this double site change, where I replace her dexcom (continuous glucose monitor) and her omnipod (insulin pump), you see how we deal with the tantrums and negative feelings towards diabetes.
I like to give Addie as much choices and control as possible. I try to encourage her and go at her own pace. This is how we deal with type 1 diabetes our way, every day.

She is so sweet and you are so good with her. When she whines like that with no tears is that her way of communicating that she's really just frustrated and tired of the situation? When you tell her to breathe and just hug her and soothe her it's the best reaction you can give. You can't tell her it's going to go away at some point. It's life long for her and I'm sure you feel overwhelmed at times as she does too. I give you both so much credit for managing the way you have. Watching the earlier videos and then seeing her a couple of years older drives it all home. I agree with the other person and thank you for not sugarcoating this. We see the laughing the crying the frustrating times the fun times. It's real life! I don't know why other people hide the reactions. It's real life and if they aren't willing to show the situation and it's reality they are doing a disservice to the people that need to learn.

Addies tshirt is really cool. I’m 35 and started using insulin to control my diabetes about a month ago. It’s crazy the amount of energy etc that I now have. Addie is so brave and sweet. I’m bribing myself with a treat like a soft toy each week as motivation.

Is it just me, or is Addie difficult to understand? I understand when she says mom or mama but sentences in between are unclear. I respect she is four years old and that some children’s speech development where clarity is concerned progresses across time so it's not a huge worry or anything like that. I’m just curious if anyone else watching these is noticing this too. Glad she got through this dexcom and pod change okay even through the anxiety and tears. Big hugs for this little one.

A girl who gets diabetes t1 before the age of 10 is estimated to have 18 years shorter life expectancy. I got T1D in 1966 when I was 7. Estimated to live to be 60 years old. This year I turn 66.

I’m just curious, is Addie going to go to speech therapy if she isn’t already. Not out of disrespect, but at age 4 children tend to enunciate things clearly if not diagnosed with a something that involves speech or development. I've had T1D for 28 years. I was dx at 5 years old. I currently use a Medtronic insulin pump and the G6 dexcom. My basal rate is 1.9U of Humalog an hour. Before being on an insulin pump I used the long acting insulin Lantus and took Humalog/Novalog/Apidra to cover my meals. Hopefully, this is enough information to prove that I am not just saying I am a diabetic. I want you to know I'm a diabetic because as a diabetic I would be embarrassed, angry and resentful if my mother had made money off of the hard and painful moments that came with being a diabetic child. You wouldn't be posting these same videos time and time again if your child weren't crying during a pod/dexcom change because people wouldn't watch them. You are exploiting your child and it is cruel and unacceptable. There will be a day when your daughter is able to view these videos.

It's helpful to those of us dealing with it, and some mom with a young child like her can take comfort in watching how it's done. To do this, the child has to be scantily dressed again and again at an unpleasant moment in the video for her. You can also show the same with a doll. I agree with you that informing about diabetics is useful.
