Hey Robbie, Another great video. I use LIVE (saltwater) shrimp all the time when saltwater fishing. I use an aeration pump and have kept 100+ (average size 15 cm) shrimp alive and healthy in only 11 liters of water for days. I do however use a 30 liter bucket with a lid that has an opening to reach in, cause those shrimp are so lively they will jump out. I also use dry dog food in a perforated 3.78 liter plastic container that I have hanging in the water behind my place. It attracts the minnows and smaller pan fish, which in turn attracts the larger fish. Happy fishing and tight lines. Tim, Hernando, Fla.

That's a great bucket. Yabbies will climb up the air tube to get out. I had found some outside when I used to fish for them . That's the only way they could escape.
@Trojwaterman5 жыл бұрын
as long as the air stone makes the water surface move around the water will be aerated, also a larger surface area and cooler water will absorb more oxygen. Cool boxes make great live bait carriers . Just thought I would put that out there :)

Hi mate thanks so much for putting that great information out there. I love the foam boxes for keeping yabbies alive.

North-westerly hurricane hahaha. I definitely need one of those buckets, shrimp are buggers to try to grab out of the bottom of a normal bucket or tub that's full of water lol. The other thing that is crucial when keeping shrimp alive is water temperature, they can be quite finicky if the temp rises or drops too quickly so shade is your best friend in hot weather. I suppose you have the option of changing the water out for fresh cool water with that bucket as well seeing it has the basket part. Great video mate, definitely one of the best baits you can find.
@robbiefishing5 жыл бұрын
Thanks buddy. Absolutely spot on about the shade and change in temperatures.

Where's the best place to find shrimp around Australia you reckon sir? And to help fix the aerator's battery gap a bit of aluminium foil will do.

Hey Robbie thanks for another great chillaxed video. With saltwater shrimp you can put them in a container with saw dust (not treated pine ), wrap it in a tea towel and put them in the fridge, they would keep for weeks. They kinda just go to sleep and go nuts when they warm up... Not sure if it works with freshwater shrimp.. 🦐🦐🦐.....

Hi mate. Another good thing is to drill a hole in the top of a 10lt esky and poke your tube through it. This helps keep the bait cool and you can get them out using an aquarium fish net.

A relative of mine would go shrimping in Mildura and sell 500 shrimp for 50$. Money aside, I was amazed that he would count each shrimp as he packaged them. So I counted a bag. 500. He sold them to people that feed their fish live food. Also it’s a good way to introduce kids into fishing’.

The best way to keep shrimp alive at your fishing hole, is to keep them in the trap. Just take out what you need for the hook. Shrimp are the best spring time bait, been catching plenty of yellowbelly and redfin all on shrimp.
