My sister was wearing my dress, and sat on motor oil. My aunt told me to do this: I set paper towels on my ironing board and sprinkled baby powder on it. I set the dress on it, sprinkle baby powder on it, and place a paper towel on top of that. I then ironed over the paper towel. The paper towels and baby powder along with the heat absorbed the oil off my dress! I might’ve replaced the paper towels and baby powder twice.

If you want to wash your clothes less, you can use a trick they use in the theatre- spray your clothes with a mixture of vodka and water to freshen them up, if they’re not really dirty. In the theatre, they can’t wash costumes often, because they are often really intricate garments that couldn’t be put in the wash.

The trick that works on oils is remembering that oil and water don't mix. Because of that, resist the urge to run to the faucet. When treating oil stains, concentrated liquid detergents bond with the oil best when applied directly on the oil spot undiluted. Especially with a thicker oil like Olive oil, coconut oil, or any greasy oil stains. (What tends to happen is the oil sets in when the heat of the dryer can make oil become like wax. However, even wax is removable when treated with a cloth sheet, ironed on with heat. The wax transfers from the fabric to the sheeting.) Oil is removed with pure liquid detergent if there isn't any water on the stain to create a barrier. The oil bonds to the detergent and then the detergent and oil can get rinsed out with water once the oil has bonded to the detergent rather than the fabric. This often works. Except for some stubborn oil stains which usually involve synthetics or blends in which case the oil chemically changed the poly-fiber fabric. Oils can permanently alter the structure of some synthetic fabrics. This is also why body oil and perspiration which has some oil can damage synthetics.

Saved many of my hubby's white shirts by rubbing a bar of soap on the stain, letting it sit for 5 min and pouring boiling water over the stain. Always good as new, even if it the stain came from something rich in colour, like blueberries!

For oily stains I am using just normal salt. The moment you get the stain you just cover it with layer of salt and let it stay on the stain until you wash it. I think it removes oily stains very well. 😃

For avocado I use the oxy clean spray straight on it, then just leave it overnight, rinse it out the next day spray again if necessary and toss it in the wash as normal. This even works for really smashed in avocado or if it was left for a couple days, the key is to spray it and let it sit.

Great tips about socks! Also, for armpit stains and to even avoid them, I use Shout and spray the blouses/t-shirts' underarms, let it soak for about 10 mins and throw in the washer, stains no more!

Thank you. Great tips. Will use them today. I'd like to share 2 that I love. If you spilled red wine on your clothes in a restaurant, rub some salt into the stain immediately and then rinse it in the washroom. It will help absorb a lot of the colouring right away. Also, for ink stains, hairspray works like magic. You do need to rub it in with your fingers, but pen marks disappear in front of your eyes. I learned this trick when I sat on the edge of a desk that had red ink on it. I was wearing white pants. The horror! One of the ladies grabbed her hairspray and, voila, I was able to wear my favourite white pants for years after. I don't use hairspray on my hair, but keep it as a cleaning solution :)

i have the best tip for the most difficult spots in white clothes or very light colors. A mixture of hydrogen peroxide and baking soda. Make a paste and put on the stain, you can carve a little but if you just leave it on for a few hours to dry, if it is possible to give sunlight much better. Then just shake it and go. The stain is gone!

Finally.....it's released 😃 Last 2 weeks I got new shirt from outdoor market and I found a stain or mark something I wasn't sure but it's dark yellow one, a spot one. Then I tried to rub it with detergent but it didn't work. So then I soak it with detergent for overnight just because I was too tired to do anything even wash and hang clothes....and I wonder, that mark is gone. I thought it would be there forever until I was thinking to sew the pretty button on. 😅 It's amazing for me though.

Baby powder has worked great for me on olive oil stains or pasta sauce stains. But I have to target the stain as soon as possible and I would usually lay it flat with the baby powder for a day at least and make sure you cover the stain very well and put enough amount of product and leave some extra around the edges of the stain.

If you ever have an ink spot on vinyl, you can apply Oxy 10 acne cream on it and sit it in the sun. Reapply every couple f days if neeed. It will fade the background color of some vinyls but takes the ink out.

For oil stains you have to do the opposite or in my case I do this for every stain just incase. You need to start with soap first and then add water. Chemically water and oil do not mix. So you need something like soap to breakdown the oil molecules first in order to use water or else water will coat around the oil stain and make it actually harder to remove. So I would recommend that as it works pretty well for me.
