There’s one assumption that’s easy to make but can really damage your career.
And that’s thinking your boss knows what you’re doing and how well you’re doing it.
After all, they’re your boss. It’s their job to know what’s going on and to look out for team members, right?
Unfortunately, they’re busy people and not mind readers.
That’s why the best strategy is to take charge of keeping your boss updated on what you’re doing and to do it in a way that serves both of you well.
In this week’s blog post, I share the benefits of updating your boss, a mistake one of my clients made that almost derailed her career, and how to do it well.
Keeping your boss updated is one of your career secret weapons because it’s a great opportunity to be more visible with people who matter in your career.

3.26 - Check with your boss. This sums it all up - ask your manager how she or he wants to receive updates (email. in person, etc.) and to what level of detail. 9 out 10 bosses/managers will love you if you ask them this and then do what they reply. If you have a manager that doesn't like this question, find a new employer!!!

Whoever Linda’s boss is was really a pathetic boss. As a boss you should be held to a higher level scrutiny. He should have relayed how he felt to Linda and worked on his own anxiety and frustration levels. Those at the top control the culture!
