I wouldn't say my laptop's thermals are especially bad but there are a few games here and there that seemed to hit the cpu temperature harder than I was comfortable with. This is honestly an incredible tweak, very well worth doing. As for whisper mode I do still prefer to get the most out of my gpu. Since it rarely passes 70c at full power and typically 65c max in hybrid mode I wouldn't take the fidelity hit from whisper mode. Excellent video, more people should know about this. Oh and for your information since you mentioned being unsure about AMD, I did this on a ryzen cpu laptop. Definitely works. Dropped my 5800h about 15 to 20 degrees C and I can still game over 150 fps. I have noticed some slight frametime instability in a few titles but nothing terrible.
@ComputerSensei3 жыл бұрын
Thank you for confirming that It will work on AMD. I also noticed the slight frame time instability especially on games that are more CPU dependant
@Orain883 жыл бұрын
@@ComputerSensei no problem, happy to help. I found that the framtime instability tends to happen if you are running the gpu near max capacity. For example If I'm running a game at 150 fps and my gpu usage is over 95% it's more likely to get some stutters. If I cap the framerate with riva tuner to something more modest like 120 or tweak visual settings to get gpu usage under 90% it's very smooth sailing. Seriously, how is this trick now better known?? Knocking 20c off cpu thermals for such minimal performance cost is nuts. Apex legends is one I was anxious to play because it regularly pushed my cpu into the 80s and was a minimum of 77c, with this it tops out at 65c and tends to average 61c while smoothly playing at 144hz. Tbh this method work pretty well for cpu with 6-8 cores (12 or 16 threads), very little performance lost with heavy cpu temp reduction. Also this work both gaming and daily workload such as rendering (altho you can set the max cpu performance from the rendering application, but you can leave it 99% as well)

Yes great note, and it is so easy to switch back to 100% based on your usage.

Oh my good lord above, you have just helped me no end my friend. I have an m15 r6 alienware and they blocked out throttle stop under volt for the M range. I'd turn my laptop on, and straight away as soon as I start a game the temps just bolted to 100, all I've done is switch the the maximum battery state to 99 on both, and it's literally saved 25 degrees. This is running my game on max settings now after I've had to turn things down to keep temps under control. Thank you so much.

Note: As long as the games you are playing are optimised well, you shouldnt have any issues with the CPU underclocking (disabling turbo boost). However, games that are extremely reliant on single core performance EG CSGO, you will see a massive hit in FPS by doing this. Just a note

Thank you! My Dell G3 was overcompensating way too much and my CPU hated when I played Subnautica or Cyberpunk, no matter how much I tweaked the settings. I was about to risk under-volting before I came across this tutorial. For Dell users: go into your BIOS and find Turbo Boost under the Performance tab. Disable it, click Apply and you are good to go.

Same man! my heart also went full jet-engine when I heard the fan from out-of-the-box Dash f15, thought it will melt soon (since its size that is thinner compared to other gaming laptops) A super simple trick that makes 85°c down to 65-75°c!

Yes, because now turbo mode is off at 99%. Also, What is your laptop model? Anyway if you have Nvidia GPU turn on Whisper mode. It is great! As long as you are not a competitive gamer who will make use of every additional FPS to win competitive game, then 60 FPS is enough. It will make game smooth while keeping your hardware cooler.

This is Actually a better way to keep your performance stable with slightly FPS loss, keep in mind that the hotter the CPU and GPU are, more Performance loss so dont force your Laptop or PC, if your PC or Laptop is reaching more than 80°C that mean youre losing Performance.
