Cardboard ID cards on the outside of bags could get torn off as your luggage gets processed. Last time I had to check in I put GPS trackers inside hidden pockets. Luggage was "damaged" & one of the missing contents was in the lost luggage office. They denied until I triggered the alarm & proved they had it.

This happened to my wife. She had stored an ipad on her flight to Canada for work. She didn't have a case just yet so she kept it in the box. When she opened her suitcase, it was missing. That is funny, and I am sure very true. I remember one time when I was flying and the TSA was a new thing. I flew with a guy who had a nice knife in his pocket. He forgot about it until he was going through security and handed it right over to the TSA. The next year I was flying, and I saw a guy walk up past the line. He walked up to a fake plant along the security line, reached his hand into the plant, and pulled out a knife. I just kind of chuckled. That guy probably forgot about the TSA regulations and faced the same fate as my friend, but he thought quickly on his feet. He got to keep his knife after his trip.

I would place a copy of my itinerary in my bag with the important stuff like some of my personal information crossed off. I put a couple extra durable luggage tags on my bag that have my name, cell number, email address, and note the location of the itinerary in my bag. That helps an airline get my luggage to where I will be if they find my bag. I use a luggage color other than black as I literally had a person grab my bag at a luggage carosel by mistake when I had a black suitcase. Fortunately, the guy who did that was standing right next to me, and he was kind of surprised when I thanked him for grabbing the bag. I will also put a unique looking luggage strap around the suitcase to further differentiate it from other bags to help prevent that from happening again. When I travel, I only tell a couple close friends and ask them to watch my place. I try to only carry on if possible.

Decorate your luggage bag(s) with something you can easily identify your personal luggage with out of the ordinary like a certain pattern-colored string or band tied on the handle(s), a unique paintwork only you can identify, a set of stickers on the outside, etc. Heck, even an ordinary plastic grocery bag from your local grocery store that you won't find in the city/country you're traveling to will work too to make your luggage stand out.

I work for a major american airline as a baggage handler. DON'T BUY BLACK LUGGAGE. Too many people buy black and someone can grab that by mistake, it happens more often than you think. I suggest buy a crazy color, makes it identifiable. Tags can be easily taken off and so can your tape.

The other thing I do is so I can easily identify it on the conveyor belt since it can be blended in there with so many others I actually use a luggage strap that is one of many colors that they sell at the stores usually I go with a blue or red but they also have a orange yellow rainbow and countless others as well. many times when I travel I usually impacting something that can fit in an overhead bin compartment and can be considered a carry on so I do actually like to do that when I can but if I need to check a bag that's my go-to is to put a luggage strap around it even a unique piece of duct tape around the handlebar which is pretty identifiable since duct tape comes in many colors as well as prints these days.

@@JoaquinLomeliJr I know they don’t. I actually know someone who use to work at the air port loading luggage on the plane and trust me when I tell u they throw it all. Another pieces of advice don’t bother trying to get expensive luggage unless ur flying private or just going to use it as carry on. They could care less they will literally rip ur suitcase apart during transport.

I always write a big list of things that's in my luggage and take 2 big pictures of everything in my luggage and lay a big color copy of picture in luggage and a list of what's in my luggage so the thefts can know not to steal my stuff but people need common sense not to put jewelry or valuable stuff in there luggage 🤦‍♂️ they should take it with on carry on bags

0:48 how about packing radio receivers without AA alkaline but rechargeable Ni-MH battery pack as wire connection disconnected?? Tape that battery terminal with electrical tape, + and - must be electrical tape securely. So it won’t accidentally activated in checked luggage during flight.
