Hi Kevin- great video and subject matter. BTW, you have a good looking thumb. You could put George Costanza out of business as a hand model. All seriousness aside, I use Plexus on my mother-in-law after we hose her off on the deck. It leaves her shiny and slick. Doesn’t help with the bugs that fly into her teeth much though. 🏍👍🏍

Honda cleaner (common bike cleaner) is bad for visors, it wont scratch or fog, but over time it will take off any coatings on the visor. It messed up 2 Scorpion 500 visors I had. Now I only use plexus or water on visors.

Good advice Kevin... I've been in the cleaning biz on and off my whole life. Another cheap way to clean bugs on your helmet for the soaking part is to use a paper towel. I find it soaks up and holds a lot of water. But try not to use a paper towel for the second step, unless you have no other option. Water and soaking time are your best friends for cleaning.

best way as a car detailer . first clean visor with a nice window cleaner . then clay bar the visor . then apply think layer of car wax to visor . wait for it to become non transparent and when u push the wax with your finger it should pile up. then buff it off . it is now bug and rain proof. rain rolls off and it's ultra clean. when bugs hit it they wipe off with any napkin or hand . hope that helps . can explain more though if needed

Hey Kevin! Well, this is one of my sweet spots :) Fist: keeping the shield at home is one thing, and taking care of it on the way is totaly another (if you wanna do it really well). 1. at home: do it regularly, I am doing this instantly, but regularly is also good enough, if it's really often. Don't way till it's really messy or dirty. I clean it twice a day (before and after the ride), dometimes even 3 or more times! Because the less debris you have on the surface, the less micro scratches you will have after cleaning. And those scratches are the real pain in the... you know where at night! 2. on the road: I use watter, soap, and skin - yes, fingers to get all of those bugs and other stuff out of my shield. This is pretty commont on virtually any filling station and WC, under your fingers, you can easily feel if anything is still left on the shield surface, and you can apply gently "force" to get rid of them.

Kevin, I have a question/suggestion that might make for an interesting instructional video. I've recently brought my 03 Suzuki VL800 down to Ga for school; I've been riding a few years but still very novice even after the MSF course. One of the very small campus parking lots I'm allowed to park in can only be accessed by making a sharp right turn off of a narrow path into a steep incline, followed by another sharp right and decline. (It's equvillant to trying to do a u-turn up and then down a hill). I've done it a few times, but not smoothly. I can't figure out if I should try and make the turn in second gear with more speed, or shift down to first, drag my rear break, and throttle and clutch control to get up it. Do you have suggestions about how to navigate sharp, slow turns in confined spaces with different gradients that might exaggerate or tax the rules of safe, effective mc riding? I've seen your videos on turning from a stop and how to handle that when your on an incline, but I may need to rewatch it. Thanks for all the great content Josh.

Kevin - I've been a glider pilot for many years - and those Plexiglas canopies are really expensive. Down the years a lot of pilots have found Pledge furniture polish to be the best medium for cleaning their canopies - and I us it on my MC windshield and helmet visor. Works great. Spray it on and buff with a micro fiber cloth Works great.

For really heavily encrusted areas, 50% water, 50% hydrogen peroxide first ... eats through the bug guts quickly with no damage to any part of your bike! Then follow with Plexus for that great shine and protection. I noticed your Amazon link doesn't include the 7 oz option of Plexus. Could you add that? I note several comments from pilots about Pledge wax and the windscreen. I also use that technology on most of my 26 airplanes. THEN last year I tried Plexus on my Bike. WOW USING PLEDGE unless I ran clear water over it I found the wax attracted dust. ALSO when wipping the plastic always use a Non Circular pattern. Over time the micro scratches result in a pattern that kills vision when flying, Ridein into the Sun. I have an Iridium visor. I use a fairly wet microfiber, let it sit for a bit, it wipes off most of the debris, then wipe dry with a fresh microfiber, or use a Blue Scott’s Shop towel to remove water marks. Those are way smoother than a Paper Towel.

I would have to sacrifice at least two sets of underwear to carry that huge can in my FJR luggage on a 6,000 mile trip! Packing on a long road trip is as many of us know, an art. Clean underwear tops bugs! Good or bad I carry a mini pump spray with two drops of Dove and 10% rubbing alchol. Its never done my visors any harm and sure fixed bugs on tbe road. No bigger than your thumb.

The stock screen of my motorcycle had a really tiny "flyscreen" and the only thing it did great, was directing all flying insects towards my visor (and shoulders). Every hour or so I had to pull over and clean it. Since I have a bigger screen on the bike, everything stays pretty clean all day long. If I have to clean some dirt off, (at home) I get a piece of paper towel, soak it with a splash of hot water and with a few wipes, the visor/helmet is clean again. For on the road, I use "wet tissue wipes" (50 in a plastic box or so) which does the job also. Small enough to carry it under the saddle. Or cheaper, just a microfiber cloth and some spit.

Kevin, I'll "one-up ya". Someone told me awhile back about using peroxide to clean my face-shield and windshield. Tried it and it's wonderful!! Not only cleaned it but took all the residue and everything off and leaves it crystal clear!! Just put it on a rag just like you're talking about with the water and a dry rag afterward. Proceeded to wipe down the whole bike with it and then moved on to wiping my car wind shield both inside and out and it wiped off all the build up residue that even Windex had left for years! Couldn't believe how crystal clear that turned out!! Now cleaning everything with peroxide!! It's cheap and I never could use up a bottle of it anyway and it's nothing but water and oxygen !! Give it a try and you'll be surprised.

I might come late or double with that huge number of comments but there’s a grandma recipe that could be preventive cure of the helmet mask : a slice of potatoes. Indeed amidon that it contains is a natural cheep lube that prevents from fog and make the surface less “sticky”. Not smelly and fair with the planet. You don’t have to care of what kind of industrial component you might breathe along the ride as well! 😉 Thanks again for this good video and all the work done so far for riders. Take care.

Thanks. I find a little water or spit and a soft rag works fine. That's how I roll. I used one of their products and it didn't work for me at all. I was using the solution to fill in scratches and it just didn't work even though I followed the directions. I never think I need to use a bunch of chemicals to clean. The harshest solution I use is soap and water to rinse. It doesn't stink afterward either.

My friend and I drove around Lake Michigan last summer. After a day of riding the wind screens were covered in bug guts. My friend went in the motel, soaked a small towel with water then layer it over the wind screen while we went to dinner. After dinner he took the towel off and the bugs were ready to fall off with a wipe of the wet towel. He followed it up with a micro cloth and it looked perfect.

I once hit a pterodactyl while riding, what a mess. It flew right in front of me and splat! I wish I had known your tips then because cleanup would have been a piece of cake.

Hi Kevin, I really enjoy watching your very informative videos. I am a 51 year old man that has suddenly purchased a Honda CBR250R. (my wife says mid life crisis, I say I just want to have some fun before I die... although I am happy with mid life crisis - although it doesn't feel like a crisis to me) I did research long and hard around the best bike for a starter and settled on the CBR250R. I did my upright 2 day course (Sydney AUS) last week and passed. I studied the rider rules and got my L's on Monday just gone. In AUS want-to-be riders need to attend a 2 day practical course and then pass a 45 question theory exam before they can obtain a Learners Permit. So since Monday I can legally ride my bike on the road. I am still trying to build up the courage to take my bike for a ride. I purchased the bike 3 weeks ago and my brother in law was kind enough to pick it up and ride it home for me. My major fear is cars and trucks. I do however seriously want to feel the freedom of riding. Am I being too cautious? I have spent countless hours watching yours and others presentations around safety, technique, road strategy etc... regards, Tony

I just started riding a couple of months ago. Even after taking the MSF course, i started by riding around neighborhoods until I got used to the bike. I did that for a couple of days before taking it out on the road during non-busy times. I'm glad i did that, because the first couple of tuns i made went a bit wider than I wanted and i ended up in the wrong lane.

Tony, I have been riding just over a year now (turning 53) after a 30 year drought from motorcycles. In my younger days I only rode 2 lane roads and rarely, a lightly traveled divided highway. It was relatively comfortable learning, far fewer cars / mile than where I live now. I restarted by riding around my neighborhood and local runs around town on smaller roads. A few weeks of that and I moved to commuting, on 'back roads' and after a couple of months I moved on to traveling on the beltway around the city (2-4 lanes per side, about 115-130 KPH) Trucks are a concern, but you have two gyroscopes under you helping keep the bike true. What little I know of Sydney (Google Earth) I would head out to the national parks around there and build time there. A CBR250R can run on and A or an M (my son had one, they are faster than they get credit for) But I would just "back road it" as often as possible. Fewer cars, better scenery. We are all cautious, it's our experience that some of us "run with the bulls" somewhat relaxed (no, I'm not completely relaxed around groups of large trucks or the odd electric car, Teselas are stealthy bastards). Enjoy your new found freedom, and remember, there are no motorcycle parking spots in front of the psychiatrist' office. Cliff.

Tony Tripp Hi Tony, Terry from Melbourne, Aus. 60 yrs old, been riding 45+ yrs. I have No problem riding anywhere in ALL riding conditions. My 20 cents, just ride around the 'back streets' and neighborhood gaining confidence, and when you feel comfortable, just venture out a bit more, and more and more. Soon enough you will be riding anywhere you want. Maybe a dumb thing to say, keep to the speed limits. You cannot go wrong. (speed camera's are EVERYWHERE here in Melbourne. EVERYWHERE.) Regards.

I started riding 8 months with zero experience. I'm 53 years old and I absolutely love it. I didn't do any courses and I passed my riding test with zero demeits. I practiced a lot in parking lots especially the belt exercises created by Moto Jitsu. With full confidence on the bike I actually look for busy traffic. At Christmas I went in parking lots on purpose so I could work on maneuvering. I have zero fear of stupid cars. So work on your skill. Practice practice practice.

I pre treat with 3M plastic cleaner/polish (applied like wax) then it's warm water at home, or soft cloth with a little bottled water and comes away clean on the road.
