They are LOUD and it is not a melodious way to wake up at 4am when it's still dark outside. It's not like they just crow once and go back to sleep...it continues for hours. I don't make any loud noises to upset my neighbours at any time of the day so I would hope they return the favour.

My polish rooster went into a depression and would stand all day facing the wall. A few days later his bottom beak got caught in it. The instructions say that there should be enough room to put your pinkie finger in the gap. Id rather hear crowing that have depressed birds. Hi from the Scottish Highlands :-)

Hey all, I'm in the burbs and have a roo that is a pain in the ain. 6.17 am he fires up. I fixed the problem good. I bought 12 hay bales and basically built a square hay igloo with a hay bale door that just gets pushed in place in the cavity I made as a door way. So it works like this, 6.17 am he crows 6.18 am I get up , catch him and place him in the igloo. This igloo works like a sound room, deadens the noise he makes, you can still hear him but greatly muffled. Oh yeah one other thing , try not to forget the little bugger in there all day. This is really only for the morning, when we humans are particularly sensitive to early painful wake up calls. Hope this helps.

If you have plenty of land I don't see the problem but you should see our neighborhood in Florida. There's like 1-3 roosters freely walking around crowing at all times of the morning. In a RESIDENTIAL NEIGHBORHOOD. I swear to God if I get the chance to catch one in the road I'ma floor it and send that m'fkr to alarm clock hell. I wish I knew who in the area thinks they get to decide when the whole neighborhood has to wake up.
@patrierdelyi29196 жыл бұрын
I used that exact collar. My roo tried to pull it off. He managed to hook one of his toes in it and couldn't get it out! He toppled backwards off his roost. Luckily he didn't get hurt- but if I wasn't watching him he would have spent the night in discomfort and maybe even been traumatized or died. This thing has to be very carefully fitted! It can't be too tight or too loose. I now have 3 roosters. I just keep them inside until 9 am. If anyone complains (to the town) I tell them that my property is legally grandfathered for my "chicken business" and I have a legal agreement with the town that states that my roosters can crow as much as they want after 9 am. I had to go to court to get the variance (cost nothing. I didn't hire a lawyer). The town didn't want to "fight" me and spend municipal dollars on court expenses so the town attorney sternly instructed the zoning dept to come to an agreement with me regarding a variance. The fact is, people get used to hearing roosters and many like it. As I said my roos are not let out into the yard until after 9- everybody has gone to work. And after the late afternoon roosters are pretty quiet unless there is a predator hanging around. I keep them in large dog crates inside. Believe it or not all my roosters come inside on their own. I don't have to chase them or catch them. I've trained them to want to come inside just to get a cup of special rooster food and blueberries. Any roosters that I can't train or that aren't "good" protectors I re-home. My roos sit quietly all night like fat kings on their throne. They can hear the hens and they only crow if there is some commotion. Some roosters have "annoying" crows and other roosters have a bell-like crow. I don't think it has anything to do with breeds or even genetics. It seems to be more the luck of the draw. Now for many years I had an Amazon parrot that was in a cage on my 2nd fl porch in the summer. He screamed all day. No rooster I've ever had was nearly as bad as my parrot! Not only would my parrot scream- if some kids yelled "shut-up stupid!" or "shut the hell up!" he'd screech "SHUT UP! SHUT UP!" I'm really glad roosters can't talk!

I tired the velcro before because of the cost, but the down side of that is that it cuts up the roosters neck. I noticed that he had scabs on his neck from the velcro. I don't know if the ones you buy are softer on the roosters neck., but if it is than I feel that it's the smarter buy. Also I never knew how tight to make it without actually choking the rooster. Any advise on this subject would be appreciated. I don't want to harm the rooster. I don't have anymore now but I do want to have a rooster in the future so I can produce more chickens. I’m shocked that someone has actually thought of a way to keep roosters quiet. I grew up in Romania and I can’t imagine a rural house with no roosters. Rooster crows are the definition of rural life. My grandma used to have two roosters every year (if you keep more, they’ll be in a fight all day and hurt one another). Whenever I was going on holiday, yes I could hear them early in the morning, but it wasn’t unbearable, and to complain would have been pointless anyway because that’s nature, all the houses had roosters and the idea of a no crow collar would not have crossed anyone’s mind. Plus, after two or three days, you get so used to them you actually don’t wake up anymore. Or you hear them but you just ignore them and continue to sleep.
@soaringspirits2267 Жыл бұрын
People here around cities aren't used to it sometimes, so when they go from hearing nothing, to the birds being pretty loud, it tends to bother them, and gets chalked up as a town disturbance, and therefore you can be fined for having them.

Roosters crow to show off and establish dominance in a flock ( and just to be a-holes) , they growl to alert to danger and they coo to flirt with the girls. The collars do not interfere with any of this, they just make the crowing a little easier to handle at 3am.

I have watched numerous videos now on how to quiet a rooster. But none of them give demonstration of before and after how the sound difference is without and with the collar.

I adopted 3 two week old chicks, two of them are roosters and one is a hen. I also live in a duplex with houses close by me. Thanks for sharing this video to me, I wouldn’t want an angry mob in the morning

When we were young and caught chickens we would wrap our hands around its throat, dont squeeze it, just wrap around and they wont make a noise so not surprised to see someone came up with this cheap solution.

My neighbors like the rooster crow. It's less noisy than dogs and cats and planes (all nightly hours) and it reminds them of farm life, something most people like.

I paid over $20 for the exact same collar. I also bought a pack of three pretty cheap on eBay that work just as well if not better. In my pack of three were 3 different widths. Sometimes one works best then again another works best. I hate keeping him in it all the time, so if not too many people are around or there is another noise that’s loud I’ll remove it.

Well, he does have a point though. Don't get me wrong, so do I but imagine somebody who doesn't like birds or needs to sleep in, it's never fun to be woken up early.

It's always so surprising to realize people don't care about getting close to nature..have we really become so far removed from anything natural ? Have we isolated ourselves so much that the crowing of roosters is intolerable? Wow..maybe Covid-19 will bring people back to their senses I hope so. I plan to keep some chickens in the back yard and maybe a rooster too.

People work odd hours. It's not about isolating ourselves from nature, it's about the reality of the lives of working people. We require sleep.

Great, now the rooster can't alert to the hens that there is danger near by and to take cover. Roosters have different calls for different predators. If it's a sky predator like a hawk, they will give out a certain call that tells the hens to run under some cover so the hawk can't see or grab them. If it's a ground predator, snake, fox, racoon, weasel the rooster gives out a different call and the hens respond by flying up to a roost/branches to get away from the ground predator. Now your poor rooster is next to useless. If he can't get enough air to crow properly, he wont be able to breathe enough air in to run and protect his flock against enemies. He will be starving for air and fall victim to the predator himself because he can't supply his body with enough air for fast activity. This collar is a bad idea. Get it off the rooster.

In our flock of 20 (including 2 turkeys) we only have one rooster. I don't mind him crowing at all :) the turkeys call when they see me feeding the horses or pulling out of the shop haha, I just don't mind at all.

You could by a koeyoshi rooster or a similar breed. They have a rather deep call and are not as loud as a regular one.

Basically you’re choking your chicken. Pun intended. But hey really. Don’t ever do this to a chicken. You can cause it to be “crop bound,” or any other number of ailments.
