The hens are very noisy after laying eggs, and if they sense danger, same thing, but for some reason, city people just have an allergic reaction to rooster's crow. Maybe that's just in the US, maybe western Europe too, but in Asia, nobody complains about rooster crowing, in city or the farm.

@@marilynmccourt6929 It's a matter of the environment in which one grew up. In many parts of the world, people just don't mind. The rooster crow is mixed in with dog barking, car horn, all kind of noises and could be right next door, on the street right in front of your house. I grew up like that so I am used to such commotion. I visited Hawaii and saw chickens running around on the streets, in people's yards, in the parks, pretty much everywhere. I loved it. But I can understand people who grew up in quiet residential subdivisions in the US would want no part of that.

my point exactly, and imo dogs are louder and bark more than a rooster crows. it's absolutely ridiculous, i used to live in the south and we had a rooster and everybody was ok with it but then we moved up north and there's super strict rules on it.

Bo sure turned out to be beautiful! I My chickens are just 18 weeks so no eggs yet. I bought 7 and 2 are roosters, sadly. The boss dude show all the signs: finding nesting spots, food, herds them but crows ALL day long. Not good. Thanks for the demo on the collar because it doesn't eliminate, just reduces the noise. 8/7/22

We got 8 chicks from a place that said 98% girl. 3 are roosters. 😔 The leader is LOUD, and crows all morning, we think car headlights, and all day. But we've researched, and removing him, will make the next dominant rooster to crow. We're trying a collar full time, 3rd day, time to tighten. But we have crows, and HAWKS around our 5th of an acre hilltop neighborhood home. So keeping him is our hope. He heads up at any niose from his hens. He's a good rooster, just heckin loud. My point was, even big chicken farms suck at sexing chicks. 3 male 5 female isn't 98%, Baxter farms!!! 11/3/22

We have replaced the latches and are rebuilding with a new flock this Spring. They are beautiful too, but it was very hard to lose my other flock. The city set up a trap, but it was really too small for this big cat. They tell me it is a male bobcat and he will return to mark his territory so we are being extra careful with all the animals.(I have rabbits too.) Thank you for taking the time to comment. Brahma, cochin, orpington, silkies, and a few tiny breeds. My rooster is a white silkie. They walk around the yard all day and seem really happy. They come when I call and they always check the grocerie bags when I get home. Ofcourse they know something in there is for them. I keep them as spoiled pets but remove the eggs tho chicks would be fun. Do you keep them for fun only? Or eggs/meat etc?

Thank you for showing how the collar works. I am researching and deciding on whether to get chickens or not. I live in a small town. They are letting us have chickens if we can keep them quiet. I want a rooster so I can reproduce for meat birds. So I am looking into a dual bird breed. There is a neighbor not far from me that has a rooster. I don't hear him when I am inside. I am waiting to see how long he will be allowed to stay before someone says something. To me it's part of being in the country. So, to me I want to blend in. So thank you.

I have a young rooster that just found his voice. I tired a two inch collar and he went crazy trying to get it off. I took it off and then put on a 1' collar. He went crazy, but not as badly. He did get used to it but it did not lower his crowing volume. So, I put on another 1" band. He went a little crazy, but not as much as the first time. His crowing is lower in volume and it seems like he tries it less now. One drawback is that he had really trusted me and let me pick him up when ever I tried. Now he is a bit afraid of me and certainly doesn't want a third collar. He is also starting to get some aggressive behavior. I tried to pick up his step-sister and he made threatening motions to attack me. He is also starting to get aggressive towards her, getting ready for his dominance. On the other hand, the adults chase both of the young ones around, especially the dominant female.

@BloomWhereYourePlanted

Hi Anthony, I need to do an update video. I won't ever do a collar again. The reason is I have a neighbor that really doesn't like the noise and the rooster does still crow with the collar on, it is just about half what a normal crow would be. The temptation to keep tightening that collar as it bothers the neighbors is just too great. If you tighten the collar so that the rooster just makes a rasping sound then it is way too tight in my opinion. I think it might have been a factor in Bow's death?!? So I guess I would advise you to think about your neighborhood. Is it chill or a bit uptight? If you know what I mean. How much room do you have between houses? I think some neighborhoods it would fit in oK. just not mine. Of course I have a front yard garden so I really need my neighbors support. If they start complaining the city would be forced to act. Hope that helps. A cochin! I bet he is beautiful! I can see why you want to keep him! Blessings Dash

I think this is a bit cruel to the rooster. I had one too, until some one complained, and that person was not even a neighbor. All my neighbors were fine with the rooster crow. The older gentleman was actually actively working for the HOA. He walked the neighborhood every morning, both to exercise and to jot down signs of violation. So I had to give my rooster away. He actually wrote down everything, but I kept the hens anyway. Not too long after that, he died, and I never got cited for anything again. But my chickens keeping days were also over. Too many feral cats had moved in.

Bantams are generally a smaller breed of chicken so the collar may have been too wide. We use a collar that is less than an inch wide on our pekin bantams and always make sure the neck feathers are arranged as best possible - over the top and the ones trapped by the collar.

To make a quick & easy bird catch; #9 wire , cut 4-5 ‘straight pc ,craft a Shepard’s hook in one end, small enough to accommodate the chickens leg, spread some feed on the ground next to u, one quick grab gets a chicken every time practically with out moving , saves u running around out of breath. Hi Wendy, sorry for late reply. I had to go help a sick friend on her homestead. The farm goes on sick or not! Bo ended up dying an early death I am afraid. I think it was coccidiosis that ended up killing him because a few hens passed also at the same time before I treated the flock. However It was difficult to catch him & make sure the collar was loose enough, so that was a problem. If you had a coop you could walk into & check when he is sleeping that would be best. As he grew the collar got tighter so watch for that if you use one. I have decided not to use one again. This is what I have come up with now to have a rooster on the homestead. It is a bit of trouble but worth it to me. kzbin.info/www/bejne/p5KcgY2veKxmnZo Hope that helps, Dash

Hi Benjamin, I know we got attached to our roo too. I bet he is beautiful! You are not doing anything wrong I don't think. That's why I call it the "less" crow rooster caller in the video. To me, if you put it tight enough so they don't crow at all it is too tight/cruel. So even with it on they will make a crow about half what it normally is. We don't have our rooster anymore because of this. If I did it again, which I probably won't, I would put him in dog house/crate in the garage each night then let him out at a more reasonable hour so he could crow all day if he wanted. I think it is those 5:00am wake ups that made people crazy! Good luck, Dash

Yeah, very helpful. My barred rock ("Angela Merkel") was supposed to be a pullet and started crowing at just 9 weeks. I tried my best to raise lap chickens, and for the most part succeeded (except that they refused to be touched while free ranging). There are no ordinances here in unincorporated county, but with summer in full bloom, he starts crowing at 5:30 am. Not a recipe for happy neighbors. So I'm going to try collaring him each night and removing it each noon when I let them out.

I have 2 roos..they never fight with each other..they love to cuddle with me and to sleep on my lap..but the bigger one crows so loudly..as I live in a flat so it is very difficult for neighbours..i bought some velcro tape and use it as collar..it seems he is fine with it, and the sound is also reduced..

Wow I have never heard of roosters that cuddle! How fun! I am glad you found a solution with velcro. Good for you. Yes when I bought it, I thought, this is just an expensive piece of velcro. Thank you for sharing!

can you hear him in the house?
@BloomWhereYourePlanted
@BloomWhereYourePlanted 6 жыл бұрын
Sorry to say, Yes you can hear his half crow in the house. I think the temptation to keep tightening the collar so that you can't hear him is too great. If you tighten it where you can only hear a raspy sound it is, in my opinion, too tight. We don't have him anymore. He died. Did the no crow collar have anything to do with that? Not sure, but I know that we will never have another rooster on our urban homestead again.

Have you guys have had any hawk issues ever since the rooster is gone? We have been trying to find a solution for that, and hear that a rooster would help. Any suggestions? it would greatly help! Thank you

Your rooster has lice eggs all over the back of his neck. If you leave that collar on him the lice will drive him crazy. You need to dip your chickens in a ivermectin dip.

What size collar did you used on bo?
@BloomWhereYourePlanted
@BloomWhereYourePlanted 4 жыл бұрын
We used medium. I have to warn you that Bo was hard to catch! So as he grew the collar got tighter. If you had a coop that you could walk into & get him will he is sleeping to periodically check that would be good. When we finally caught him it was very tight! I felt terrible! so watch for that. Good luck. Dash
