How weird. This very video is the epitome of about 6-7h of research on how to keep my valuables safe with me when going to the beach on holiday abroad. From researching waterproof phone bags of differing waterproofness, to bum bags that rip, to dry bags, and, finally, tow floats. Think I'm ready for that holiday!! Thanks for the great vid!

Hello Dear Rachel, I thank you very much. Because I started swimming 3 years ago and now I have the confidence and fitness to swim in the open sea. Here I am faced with the question of which product I need and what I should buy. You are helping me a lot with these videos you share. I thank you sincerely, these videos are a great experience sharing.

Wild swimmer from the wilderness of northern 🇨🇦 here… I’m that wild swimming anomaly. I’m more worried about bears 🐻 or beavers 🦫getting into my stuff than I am about thieves, weather, or dogs taking a whiz. Also, there is no cell service where I live so no phone on my swimming adventures. The lakes should be opening up soon and the bears will be out (and hungry) within the next few weeks. Whoop!! Whoop!! Let the wild swimming season begin 😃 Great info in today’s video Rachel. Congrats once again on reaching 10K subscribers. You can be sure that 10 000 people know a good thing when they see it! 🌎💦Ⓜ️ary🏊♀️

Thanks Mary. I'm thinking of a celebratory swim for the next video maybe. I bet you don't leave and snacks on the side of the lake with your things - lock that up in the truck, away from the hungry bears!!

Great video. Thank you! I take my valuables (phone and car of bike keys usually) with me in my tow float. Before I had a tow float, I usually either locked them in the car and then hid the key in my rucksack or hid the key on the tyre or elsewhere. For the phone I have similar cases as you do, but very often I just stuff with the key into a zip lock freezer bag and then put in the tow float. The tow float is great solution, although like you, I am sometimes annoyed by it, when the wind keeps blowing it at my head or when I'm backstroking and keeps getting in the way.
@EverydayAthleteRach2 жыл бұрын
A tow float and back stroke would be a pain! Glad you have a valuables solution :)
@katebeirne16782 жыл бұрын
I had a duplicate car key made, it only opens the doors, won’t start the ignition so no electronics to worry about getting wet. You can then lock your keys safely in the car. Apparently this is called a ‘surfer’s key’.

Agree tow floats are great for SO many reasons...also good tip about checking the pouches are watertight - I got a rip in one of mine and did not notice till it was too late, fortunately it was my car key and not my phone 😄 and was on a hike, not in the water....

Sounds like you got off lightly. I drowned a phone in a pouch as I hadn't quite squeezed it completely shut 🏊😃

I like the comment about your tow float scaring you every now and again :D . Also they are ermm, annoying when the wind is behind you and they try to get ahead :D

So annoying I made a video about it! I can't say the number of times I've been quietly stealth swimming to check out the wildlife and my towfloat has bobbed up and tapped me on the shoulder. Nearly had to change my swimsuit a couple of times!

mam for regular dry bag would it not be better not to squeze out all air from inside the dry bag so that when you tie it up having more air inside makes the dry bag float better
@EverydayAthleteRach4 ай бұрын
If you don't squeeze out as much of the air as possible, if it gets a good squeeze it could blow out and let water in. Having said that, I don't always squeeze it out completely and I'm careful with it. The blow up air chambers on a tow float give it buoyancy without the risk I mention above.

- How long can the drawstring of the swim dry bag be so that it doesn't end up between my legs when swimming? Thank you. - The dry bag for the iphone with which I could take pictures in the water while swimming is very interesting! - One day with rough seas on the shore I dropped my iphone 12 mini and it took it away on the wave. I dredged the whole area in the waves and after more than 10 minutes, thanks to my aquatic dog with a good disposition for research, we fished it out. It continued to function and sustained no damage even though it was partially buried by sand and was underwater the entire time!

The tow float sits nice an high above my lesg so it never gets in the way. I love your iphone story - that's incredible!

Thanks Rachel very useful. Do you have any experience of light on hats. I have seen one or two people using them in the sea, seems a good idea in poor light or if you fancy a night swim
@EverydayAthleteRach2 жыл бұрын
Hi Barbara, if I wanted to be seen, I would put a bike light inside my tow float so it turns into a glowing orb. I know people do attach lights to their goggles strap for night swimming, it's not something I've tried though.
