Thanks for the video it was very helpful. One tip I would mention is that if you have wireless carplay on your Iphone make sure that you switch off the carplay prior to using the Dash cam app. We spent a couple of hours trying to figure out why the Iphone kept disconnecting from the camera. We believe that carplay kept taking over the connection and disconnecting the Dash cam from the phone. Once carplay was disabled the app worked great and connecting every time with no problem. Hope this may help somebody.

I finally did get to work, but do you have to do this every time you get in your car? Also, my camera keeps shutting off after a minute or so - how do I fix? Lastly, I somehow have the screen showing front and back - how do I just show the front? Unfortunately the manual that came with it doesn’t help with those issues. Thx!

If your camera is shutting off please verify that the firmware is the most recent firmware for your model, you can do this on our website or by somply googling "Camera model number" firmware update and it will take you to the link to verify this. As far as the rear camera, it will be displayed as an overlay on the viewing screen, but the video files are saved separately so you can view them independently!

To access recorded files you must download the app, and set the wifi connection from the smartphone to the receiver while it's in Wifi Connection Mode, so you can access the files on the dashcam and download them to the phone. The connection is not a full-time connection, it is only for downloading files and will not record new video while connected to a smartphone. This allows you to access the files and download the section you need, without removing the SD card from the Dashcam to view or download them to a PC. Thanks!

I just bought this same exact camera and of course I’m having issues with the setup. I’m thinking that I wasn’t holding down the correct wifi button on the camera for a long time, yet I do remember that when I did, the password did come up, but KENWOOD never showed up on my phone. I’ll try again in a couple of hours. Thx for the video tho to make sure I’m doing it correctly, as I’ve never bought one till now.

We will have it out soon! As far as downloading it to the actual phone itself, once you've saved the video from the "Files on dash cam" Category you will go to the "Files on Mobile" section. Inside this section you will tap the edit icon, the one that has the pencil in it, then select the image you would like to export and tap the icon that looks like a "less than" symbol < with three dots on each point, from there you have the option to save it directly to your phone. Hope this helps!

Hi I just installed my A601W and everytime it says device connected, I exit the wireless link mode and it says no internet connection on the network list on my iPhone. After that it disconnects the dash camera from my phone. Any advice?

The WiFi connection will not have an actual internet connection, so that would be normal, however the disconnect would be the issue. It's important to make sure that your device is not defaulting to another wireless network that may have priority over this, for example home wifi, wireless Apple CarPlay/Android Auto, etc. If none of this seems to be the issue I would recommend giving our tech support line a call so they can help you further! Try setting the Dashcam to connect mode 1st, then open your Wifi Settings in your smartphone and connect to the dashcam. *its normal to say connected without internet* From here proceed to open the KENWOOD Dashcam App, proceed by pressing "Continue" Do not press connect again-it will redirect you back to the phone Wifi menu. Dear KENWOODUSA, I am living on a busy street, trams, busses and many passenger cars on it all the day. Unfortunately i don't have a garage, where i could park my car, so it parks on the street. I have a DRV-A700WDP in my car with the hardwire kit. Can the parking mode disabled somehowe? It is difficult to start the car in the mornings, because the cam records almost all the night. I tried to disable the parking mode sensor, but this way it was worse, because it records nonstop all night long. I also tried to modify the sensitivity of the G-sensor from the default (medium) to low, but happens the same, the cam records almost all night long. It would be great if I don't need to disassemble the wiring to prevent the non stop recording when the car parks. The dashcam is updated with the latest firmware. Kenwood can you please sort out the parking mode feature. I have the hardwire kit and the latest firmware. Parking mode is on but it will record every few minutes when the car is off filling the card with useless videos! If I turn down the g sensor it then won't record when driving. What do the 3 levels of parking mode do? So far I am not impressed! I also get the odd memory errors and it won't record. And this is with a SanDisk ulta card!

bought the DRV-A301W took a couple of drives with it and when i go into the app im having issues maybe. it connects the kenwood wifi and i can view what was recorded. but after a few mins it reconnects to my home wifi. my question is does the moble app need to be connected while i am driving in order for it to save videos? or will they just show up when i get home and connect it to the kenwood wifi. i want to make sure while i am driving my videos are being saved

Cody, The Dashcam does NOT require a connection to wifi to store files. When the dashcam is on, and the "Recording" light displayed, all the video is captured on the provided SD card. You only use the Wifi connection to view and download files form the dashcam via the smartphone app. You can also remove the SD card and view the files directly from our KENWOOD Dashcam Viewer PC software. Yes, the dashcams offer a Parking Mode feature. The parking mode feature will record when the internal "g" sensor detects an impact. The system requires a CA-DR1030 (sold separately) and hardwire installation to enable park mode. Thanks!

Another way you can try to connect the receiver to the smartphone. Step one, Set the dashcam receiver to Connect mode as an example in the video. Step Two, open the Wifi connections from the settings of the smartphone Step Three, Search for the DRV-A601W from the available connection lists Step Four, Select and connect to the DRV-A601W, enter the password: *12345678* (if successful you will get a message that reads connected NO internet access, This is NORMAL) Step Five, Open the KENWOOD Dash Cam Manager APP, Click "CONTINUE" do not click "CONNECT" again, it will revert you back to your wifi menu. Step Six, Select Files On Dashcam, select the video/photo you wish to download (make sure the clip is highlighted in Grey), and select the download icon. Thanks!

The wifi connection is only to view files or make adjustments from the smartphone app, it is not a full-time connection. You must end the connection to return to recording mode. The parking mode triggers recordings when an impact is detected as an "event recording" the camera will remain in standby mode until an impact is detected. Thanks!

When operating the system it runs independently of the Smartphone, you only connect the smartphone to the receiver when you want to adjust the settings or download footage. You do not connect with the smartphone outside of the mentioned purposes. In fact, it will not record footage while connected to the smartphone. Thanks!

This is normal, the camera is connected to the smartphone via a Wi-Fi connection, there will NOT be internet access. This is to allow for a faster download of the large video files found on the dash camera, it is not relevant or required to be connected to the internet while transferring files to your smartphone. Understand you are downloading the video/photos to your smartphone Via the Wifi connection (without Internet), once the videos are downloaded from the dashcam to the smartphone, you can then share or edit the files under the "FILES ON MOBILE" to your favorite social media or others. Another tip, to highlight the options and controls to manage a clip. make sure that each video you want to manage or upload is "highlighted" in light grey by again tapping on the video you want to manage ( select each video below the preview video and the controls.) To complete the connection process, once you have made the connection, back out of the Wifi connection menu and go back to the Dashcam Manager App, Click "CONTINUE" and NOT "Connect" this will complete the connection process and you can proceed to the "Files on Dash Cam" Thanks.

I´ve spent well over an hour trying to connect my DRV-A700W to the app without success and my patient ran out - will try again tomorrow. This really shouldnt be this difficult and problematic - Video shows smooth and simple but its not like that for me. I followed all the steps from this video, from the app and from the manual but it doesnt work. Tried removing the app and installing it again, i tried forgetting the network and retrying. All this multiple times and nothing works.

Open your phones Wi-Fi settings, Find the DRV-A700W, Setup Connection, (you should see a message that says *CONNECTED NO INTERNET*) DO THIS before you open the Kenwood App Viewer and press continue. do NOT press connect. @@alanwaterson8075 We use wifi to allow the sharing of content stored on the SD card to a smartphone. Bluetooth can't share video, so a local Wifi connection is required to move video files from the receiver to the smartphone. This is considered an Access point connection type and is not built for internet browsing or over-the-air connection. Without this type of connection, our dashcams would require the use of a PC to manually remove the footage from the SD Card. This Wi-Fi feature allows users to download selected files directly to the photo gallery of a smartphone without the need for a PC and remove the SD Card from the Dashcam. This makes incidents where footage needs to be shared with someone accessible on the spot. Thanks!

I like this dash camera, but I’m having an issue with it randomly and periodically resetting. I’ll be in the middle of a drive and realize that my camera is not even running, and it’s acting as if I’ve never set the thing up before. This is a real problem if I don’t notice that it’s not working and then end up having a crash.

I never managed to get the A601W working with my Samsung S9. I get a feeling it's because the WiFi network the dashcam creates has no Internet connection and the phone briefly connects to the dashcam's network, finds there is no Internet access on that WiFi network and then switches to a network with Internet. I intend trying it disabling or deleting the other WiFi networks just to see if my theory is right. If it is, this is a serious flaw in the design of the user interface. As my camera is hard wired, the only way of configuring the camera is via the app - and that doesn't work. This is all very unimpressive for a company like Kenwood. It's about time you tested your app on a wider range of Android phones to work out a solution to this. By all accounts iPhones don't connect reliably either to the dashcam's WiFi network, probably for the same reason. These modern phones don't like WiFi networks with no Internet connectivity.

I use Samsung as well, with all the control options they offer it can be tricky depending on your configurations, here are a few things to try. 1. Be sure you are running the most current software for the dashcam-Updates are available here:www.kenwood.com/usa/car/support/ 2. I find it best to set the Dashcam in Connect mode, (stop recording, PRESS and hold Wifi button until the connection screen shows 12345678) From the phone open the "Wifi Connection" menu and from there connect to the dashcam. then continue to the app. Basically, connect to the wifi before opening the app usually results in a smoother connection process. @@KenwoodUSA I am having the same issues with my google pixel as the above user. ive tried many different ways to connect to the manager and it just doesnt work. Sadly I will be returning the camera and buying a different brand since the software seems to be non functional for android users

For everyone having connection issues. YOU HAVE TO DISABLE MOBILE NETWORK! Why? Idk, you shouldn’t have to make your phone unsafe to use the cam properly.

The wifi connection is set up for faster download of files from the dashcam. The wifi connection is only intended for use when transferring files from the receiver to your smartphone, all files are stored on the inserted SD card and can also be accessed from a desktop when the SD card is removed from the receiver. This dashcam is ok but turns itself on even after turning the screen off, as soon as i start driving its on again. Also cant download videos to phone via wifi, which although I can upload from the sd card to my pc, is a small inconvenience if i was away from home or something. Also takes a freaking age for the video to actually load on my phone so its actually quicker just to use the sd card method, the app is pretty useless other than to change settings.

Download speed and video preview are relative to the quality selected of the video files. Higher-resolution files like 4k will take longer to view via a wifi connection than a 1080p file. Your dashcam has a few different features that can turn the screen on/off. One such feature is called park mode, with it enabled the screen will react to "motion" and go to sleep when idle. You can try toggling on/off park mode to adjust this feature. there is also a screen-saver feature that you can adjust. In comparison to accessing files from wifi vs PC, the key is a convenience for instances where you don't have a PC available. As an example, if you witness an event and instantly want to share that video with police, or another motorist, you have the option to do so via the app without the use of a PC. Thanks!

Had this camera for 4 years. The app update made things worse. Camera turns off as soon as I connect to app!!!.

@@KenwoodUSA I found solution, its must be added to FAQ. GPS/Location services on phone must be enabled and active. If not active program not connecting to dashcam.

Check for updates on the Dash Cam, this may improve the connection issues for some phones. instead of opening the APP and then following to the connection screen. Try putting the Dash cam in wireless connection mode first, then open up your WIFi connection setup on your smartphone. Find the Dash Cam and connect FIRST, then proceed to open the app and press continue. You can also try restarting the phone, closing other background applications that may be running or open, and even clearing your cache to improve connection speed. Thanks.

Just did this and once i exit the connection screen on the dash cam, my iphone loses connection. whats the point of the app exactly? no videos show on my phone, no live view, nothing at all. Feeling cat fished here

David, the app is your access to the files stored on the dashcam. This allows you to download and view files stored on the dashcam via a Wi-Fi connection and adjust the settings. A smartphone app will enable you to move files directly to a smartphone without removing the SD Card to view them remotely on a PC. The Wi-fi connection is great for transferring larger HD Video files from your Dashcam to a smartphone in a timely manner, it does not offer any type of connection to the internet. Thanks!

I can’t connect to my phone. If I press connect on the app it does not ask me for password. Instead it goes to KENWOOD manager and ask like cellular data , location, storage on phone or cloud. Not happy with the system at all. If I can not connect to phone then no more KENWOOD dash camera. Really disappointed. I have plans to buy another camera but if I can’t connect existing one then I will choose another brand.

You should be able to select the back arrow at the top left hand side of that screen to take you back to Wi-Fi connections. See 1:59 of the video to show this step.

I have The Kenwood DRV-700W, I don't have a screen like yours so no password is prompted, meaning I can't connect, I tried everything I've looked at the manual it says nothing. There was no specifics on how to get the password. Any comments? If you can help me with this I'll give you a thumbs up for now you have a thumbs down.

So i see where the park mode is and it is activated. How does it record? I understand the wifi thing but while in the house where the car is not close i have no way of knowing if it is recording…
