Props on posting such a useful video. I’ve got my kickflips locked but it’s great to see a video where the teacher says “watch other videos” because that’s the key. Everyone’s kickflip is different and you need to see as many as possible to find out what fits/works with you. Good job, Jason. I’m one of the “front foot in the middle of the board” guys. I flick off exactly where your square is tho.

Great tutorial! Love your videos! I recently decided to get my kickflips down and made a video on why I suck at them to point out my problem areas that others might be struggling with as well. Like you said, I started making tutorials that I wish I had as a kid. I did the same thing with watching foot placement on VHS and then going out and trying it.

I’ve seriously watched countless videos on kickflips. I know how to do them but Im a year and some change of picking skating back up after 14 years of no skating. My kickflips are sloppy and feel heavy. Im 6’2, 235 pounds so my springy kickflips i did as a kid are hard to do. I’ve tried so many different tips from pros and other videos but this video really stuck with me. I still struggle with balance and weight distribution but I’m still progressing. Thanks for the video and detailed tips!

Thank you for this and the visuals on the board. Im tempted to cut arcs into my tape for my foot to follow. Managed to "land" 2 shady ones today. My problem was not flicking backwards kinda, I was doing more of a bad Ollie North. I still have trouble, sometimes the board sticks to my front foot and flies in front or drags with it in a front shuv fashion, but I feel like I made some progress.

I've been at it for a year and still can't get both feet on the board. All these tips are golden but if I may add what helped me get the board to flip with more control/speed is 1) when I flick I draw a "J" with my foot instead of trying to hit it dead on 2) I try to move my front foot back before kicking forward; kind of like a wind up. It feels weird but when I film myself doing it, it really helps my foot come up before kicking out which helps keep my board under me 3) take breaks. I get frustrated easy and go non stop 20-30 times with like a couple seconds in between each try and get no where. Take my tips or don't but this is just what I've learned on my journey to landing the ever elusive kickflip.

Any advice on shoulder positioning? It seems like they need to be a bit more open and less square with the board to make the kick more comfortable (otherwise you are kicking behind you at an awkward angle, right?).
@johnnyboy26533 жыл бұрын
You need to align your spine to the angle of your front foot and not only for the kickflip, pretty much every trick, it's bs when they say to keep them square.

I struggle to keep my board under me when kickfliping. I always seem to kick it way in front of me. What can I do that will help me with this?
@PHeMoX4 жыл бұрын
Yeah that can have a few causes, one being not flicking off the nose around the 'square' as Jason showed enough. If that doesn't help try to adjust your timing flicking later or earlier and if that doesn't work try to lean forward to the nose of the board a little bit more. Not too much though, because then your front foot will end up in a downwards flick. Anyway, I can keep the board under me fine, I'm struggling to have the board rotate under me. And definitely is like 80% a commitment thing. It's funny, but to me the varial kick flip is less scary to do.

If you decide to do it, just go at your own pace and enjoy riding and pushing around.
